TL;DR: Therapy with anticoagulants and platelet anti-aggregating agents exposes the patient to developing central retinal vein occlusion influencing also adversely the visual outcome without having any evidence of protective or beneficial effect.
Abstract: Risk factors for the occurrence of central retinal vein occlusion are to a certain extent similar to those of cardiovascular diseases (e.g. arteriosclerosis, arterial systemic hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dislipidemia). Hyperhomocysteinemia is an essential risk factor for arteriosclerosis intervening also directly in the local mechanism of causing venous and arterial occlusions. Ocular hypertension and glaucoma are risk factors significantly associated with pathogenesis of central retinal vein occlusion. Therapy with anticoagulants and platelet anti-aggregating agents exposes the patient to developing central retinal vein occlusion influencing also adversely the visual outcome without having any evidence of protective or beneficial effect.

TL;DR: The scarry ocular pemphigoid, is an autoimmune disease, belonging to the category of the acquired oculo-muco-cutaneous bullous dermatosis, accompanied by corneal lesions, ocular dryness syndrome, disturbances of the palpebral statics and dynamics.
Abstract: The scarry ocular pemphigoid, is an autoimmune disease, belonging to the category of the acquired oculo-muco-cutaneous bullous dermatosis. The ocular symptoms, during the acute stage are conjunctival bullae, which evolve quickly into ulcerous lesions. During the chronic stage, the disease consists of a chronic scarry conjunctivitis, accompanied by corneal lesions, ocular dryness syndrome, disturbances of the palpebral statics and dynamics. The immunopathological mechanism, is represented by a type II hypersensitiveness reaction, in which the antigen-antibody-complement interaction, takes place at the level of the conjunctival epithelium basement membrane. We have reviewed the structures with antigenic potential: the antigen of the bullous pemphigoid-2, 5-6 laminin, beta 4 integrin. The participation of the immunoregulating cells (eosinocytes, mast cells, neutrocytes, macrophages) during the acute stage of the disease, is displayed. The key role of the activated fibroblasts, in producing the subepithelial fibrosis, during the chronic stage of the scarry ocular pemphigoid, is also underlined.

TL;DR: The new pathological approach is innovative and it may provide a real therapeutical measure for this condition: topical A Cyclosporine and androgen drops.
Abstract: "Dry eye syndrome" is a common disorder of the tear film that results from inadequate tear production, excessive tear evaporation or abnormality in mucin or lipid components of the tear film. A number of 53 patients suffering from dry eye syndrome were followed up for a period of 18 months. The study group was heterogeneous, including a lot of conditions accompanied by dry eye syndrome: Syogren's syndrome, lupus erythematous, ocular rosacea, patients with systemic treatments with antidepressants, betablockers, diuretics, oral contraceptives, glaucomatous patients with topical beta-blockers, postmenopausal women, aging people, computer users and long-term contact lens wearers. The therapeutical options were dictated by the severity of the syndrome: substitution therapy, treatment of the underlying eyelid diseases, modifying of the environmental conditions and treatment of the complications in the most severe cases. The new pathological approach is innovative and it may provide a real therapeutical measure for this condition: topical A Cyclosporine and androgen drops.

TL;DR: After repeated surgical procedures, due to the recurrence of intraocular inflammatory process and the development of a complicated cataract, a good and stable functional result is obtained.
Abstract: We present the case of a 29 year old patient, mono-ophthalmic, diagnosed with Acute Retinal Necrosis Syndrome. The disease rapidly progressed despite the medical treatment, and the patient developed complex retinal detachment. After repeated surgical procedures, due to the recurrence of intraocular inflammatory process and the development of a complicated cataract, we finally obtained a good and stable functional result.
