Abstract: This article provides a literature review about the impact of the intangible assets on the design of corporate financial and governance policies. Intangible assets show a set of characteristics - namely, high levels of risk and uncertainty, firm-specificity, human capital intensity, low observability and long-term nature - that make them markedly distinct from other categories of assets. These characteristics are likely to have substantial impact on the levels of agency costs of debt (asset-substitution and under-investment problems) and equity (hidden action and hidden information problems), information asymmetry levels between investors and managers, transaction costs of debt and equity, and non-debt tax shields. The severity of these effects is likely to influence the maximisation of managers, shareholders and debt holders\' utility functions, which show different rewards, diversification levels, risk preferences and business expertise. Also, it seems likely that the severity of those effects varies across categories of intangible assets.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used simple GARCH, GARCH-M, Exponential GARCH (EGARCH) and threshold ARCH (TARCH) models to model the volatility for daily and weekly returns of the Portuguese Stock Index PSI-20.
Abstract: The volatility clustering often seen in financial data has increased the interest of researchers in applying good models to measure and forecast stock returns. This paper aims to model the volatility for daily and weekly returns of the Portuguese Stock Index PSI-20. By using simple GARCH, GARCH-M, Exponential GARCH (EGARCH) and Threshold ARCH (TARCH) models, we find support that there are significant asymmetric shocks to volatility in the daily stock returns, but not in the weekly stock returns. We also find that some weekly returns time series properties are substantially different from properties of daily returns, and the persistence in conditional volatility is different for some of the sub-periods referred. Finally, we compare the forecasting performance of the various volatility models in the sample periods before and after the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the relationship among emotional intelligence, deviant work-place behavior, and job performance, and found that emotionally intelligent employees exhibit higher job performance and a lesser tendency to take part in deviant workplace behavior.
Abstract: The purpose of the study is to examine the relationships among emotional intelligence, deviant work- place behavior, and job performance. Emotional intelligence and deviant workplace behavior was measured by the Emotional Quotient Index and Multidimensional Scale respectively while job performance was assessed by Tsui et al.,’s Job Performance Scale. Data for this study were collected from 201 employed MBA students studying at four private universities in Chittagong, a port city of Bangladesh. They were asked to rate their supervisors’ emotional intelligence, deviant workplace behavior, and job performance with the help of self -administered questionnaires. In data collection, this study used convenience sampling. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, bivariate correlation, and regression analysis. Results indicated a negative correlation between emotional intelligence and deviant workplace behavior (r = -.52**), and deviant workplace behavior and job performance (r = -.45**) while emotional intelligence was found to correlate positively with job performance (r = .58**). The main implication of the study is that emotionally intelligent employees exhibit higher job performance and a lesser tendency to take part in deviant workplace behavior. The other implication is that the presence of deviant workplace behavior was a prior indication of poor job performance; hence supervisors should use their emotional intelligence competencies to improve their own and others’ job performance. The most important limitation of the study was that it used convenience samples, which might limit the generalizability of the results. Future research directions are also discussed.
