TL;DR: In this paper, the role of economic, institutional and political factors in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) in BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China & South Africa) economy and the comparative weightage of these factors in attract FDI was explored.
Abstract: This paper explores the role of economic, institutional and political factors in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) in BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China & South Africa) economy and the comparative weightage of these factors in attracting FDI. The study uses panel data for a period of ten years (2000-2009) in order to examine the significant determinants of FDI in BRICS from a holistic approach. Analysis has been done using panel unit-root test, and multiple regressions. This study takes into account Market Size, Trade openness, natural resources as economic determinants and Macroeconomic Stability (Inflation Rate), Political stability/No violence, Government Effectiveness, Regulatory Quality, Control of corruption, Voice and accountability, Rule of Law as potential institutional and political determinants of FDI. These factors are based on their relative importance from previous empirical literature. Findings indicate that economics factors are more significant than institutional and political Factors in BRICS economies. The results indicate that market size measured by real GDP is a significant determinates of FDI which implies that most of the investment in BRICS is motivated by market-seeking purpose. Analysis of empirical data also indicates that trade openness, natural resource availability, rule of law and voice and accountability are statistically significant. Coefficients of market size, trade openness are positive which implies that these variables have positive effect on total inward FDI. Natural resource availability has negative effect on total inward FDI, this particular result indicate that FDI is not motivated by resource-seeking purpose in BRICS economies.

TL;DR: It is described how a limited number of key introductory computer programming concepts have been mapped onto the game-play, and how an equivalent set of skills characterising CT can be acquired through playing the game.
Abstract: Owing to their ease of engagement and motivational nature, especially for younger age groups, games have been omnipresent in education since earliest times. More recently, computer video games have become widely used, particularly in secondary and tertiary education, to impart core knowledge in some subject areas and as an aid to attracting and retaining students. Academics have proposed a number of approaches, using games-based learning (GBL), to impart theoretical and applied knowledge, especially in the computer science discipline. Our research is concerned with the design of an innovative educational game framework focused on the development of Computational Thinking (CT) skills, and herein we introduce a serious game, based on our framework, which encourages the development of CT skills to facilitate learning introductory computer programming. We describe how a limited number of key introductory computer programming concepts have been mapped onto the game-play, and how an equivalent set of skills characterising CT can be acquired through playing the game. A survey response group of 25 students, following computer science and related degree programmes but with very diverse backgrounds and experience, provided initial usability feedback on the game. Their feedback confirmed that they found the game enjoyable, and also universally believed that this approach would be beneficial in helping students learn problem-solving skills for introductory computer programming. Feedback from this group will be incorporated in a revised version of the game, which will now be subject to rigorous experimental evaluation and analysis, to provide structured empirical evidence in support of our approach.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors recall the overview of measures to be implemented, in a "what if" framework, with strong references to the ex-post assessment of environmental impacts.
Abstract: The paper, within the field of city logistics sustainability, recalls the overview of measures to be implemented, in a “what if” framework, with strong references to the ex-post assessment of environmental impacts. It provides a tool for supporting the definition of city logistics scenarios that should have to be evaluated ex-ante by simulation models. The analysis is done in relation to the goals of environmental sustainability to be pursued and the main characteristics of cities (e.g. population). The environmental sustainability in terms of carbon dioxide is deepened. In fact, the carbon dioxide can be considered a proxy variable of air pollution emission.
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on corporate reputation has been investigated from a multi-stakeholder perspective and the results confirm not only that as an antecedent, CSR has a strong positive effect on CR but also that CR has strong positive impact on the behaviors of customers, employees, and investors.
Abstract: In today's highly competitive market environment, firms need to meet the expectations of multiple stakeholders and compete for reputational status. In this context, corporate reputation (hereafter, CR) plays a very specific role because stakeholders make their decisions based on the reputational status of the firm in question. Given the importance of CR as an important intangible asset that firms should carefully manage, understanding its antecedents and consequences is of strategic importance. Examining CR from a multi-stakeholder perspective, this study aims to investigate first the effect that corporate social responsibility (hereafter, CSR) has on CR as an antecedent and then the effects that CR has on the behaviors of customers, employees, and investors as different stakeholder groups. To test the hypothesized relationships, an online questionnaire is conducted to a convenience sample of 172 respondents and the results are computed using multiple regression analyses. The results confirm not only that as an antecedent, CSR has a strong positive effect on CR but also that CR has a strong positive effect on the behaviors of customers, employees, and investors.
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed to enhance SWOT analysis with multicriteria decision making technique called Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which achieves pairwise comparisons among factors or criteria in order to prioritize them using the eigenvalue calculation.
Abstract: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis is a commonly used tool which examines strengths and weaknesses (internal factors) of a company or industry together with opportunities and threats (external factors) of the marketplace environment. SWOT analysis provides the basic outline in which to perform analysis of decision situations. In this study, the lack of determination of the importance ranking for the SWOT factors, we proposed to enhance SWOT analysis with multicriteria decision making technique called Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). AHP approach achieves pairwise comparisons among factors or criteria in order to prioritize them using the eigenvalue calculation. The aim of applying the combined method is to improve the quantitative side of strategic planning.
TL;DR: In this paper, a model is constructed to link the relationship between green product innovation, firm performance, and competitive capability in Turkish manufacturing firms using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM).
Abstract: Recently, many companies have recognized the concepts of green or environmental innovation. However, relatively little research attention has been devoted to the consideration of relations between green product innovation , firm performance and competitive capability . Hence, this paper aims to bridge this gap by providing empirical evidence to encourage companies to implement green product innovation in order to improve their firm performance and to enhance their competitive capability. It also includes the moderating role of managerial environmental concern in this relation. A model is constructed to link the aforementioned constructs. Data, which are collected through a questionnaire-based survey across 140 Turkish manufacturer firms from various sectors, are analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. According to statistical results, green product innovation significantly positively affects both firm performance and competitive capability. On the other hand, managerial environmental concern only moderates the relationship between green product innovation and firm performance. The results also provide various implications for managers and present some suggestions for future researches.

TL;DR: In this article, a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication system was developed in the SARTRE project, which enables forwarding of messages between vehicles to share data such as vehicle speed.
Abstract: This paper describes a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2 V) communication system that is developed in the SARTRE project. The project vision is to develop and integrate technology that enables vehicles to drive in platoons. SARTRE defines a platoon (or road train) as a collection of vehicles where a manually driven heavy lead vehicle is followed by several automatically controlled (both laterally and longitudinally) following trucks and/or passenger cars. The V2 V communication system enables forwarding of messages between vehicles to share data such as vehicle speed. In this paper, we present performance measurements of a first prototype of the V2 V system. This is an important part of the platooning demonstrator that is being developed in the SARTRE project. We evaluate two antenna placements on the lead vehicle; in front on the driver cabin and in the rear on top of the container. Our results show that the rear placement provides superior results, especially for distances above 70 meters.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assessed the use of E-SERVQUAL scale to construct e-Service Quality (e-SQ) for internet banking services and examined the effect of e-SQL on e-Customer Satisfaction (eCS).
Abstract: This study assessed the use of E-SERVQUAL scale to construct e-Service Quality (e-SQ) for internet banking services. In addition, it attempted to examine the effect of e-SQ on e-Customer Satisfaction (e-CS). Construct of e-SQ for internet banking services was developed to determine dimensions of e-SQ based on the E-SERVQUAL instrument, dimensions used to measure e-SQ in internet banking in USA, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Sweden and UK, and the expert opinions. The primary data of e-SQ and e-CS were gathered from 392 internet banking users, representing 76% response rates, of four main public banks in Iran. The finding indicated that efficient and reliable services, fulfilment, security/trust, site aesthetics, responsiveness/contact, and ease of use constitute e-SQ for internet banking services in Iran; indicating that dimensions and items of E-SERQUAL need to be reorganized and reinterpreted when it is used to measure e-SQ for internet banking. A significant positive relationship exists between e-SQ and e-CSI in the internet banking. The regression analysis performed showed that security/trust, site aesthetics, and ease of use of the internet banking services have positive effects on e-CS.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors study the determinants that measure the extent of financial inclusion and focus on the computation of an index that would comprehensively capture the impact of multi-dimensional variables with specific reference to India, using the latest available data.
Abstract: Financial inclusion has become the buzzword and has caught the attention of research scholars, policy makers and economists. While finance has always been recognized to be the life blood of any economic unit, financial inclusion, as a ‘quasi-public good’ is seen to be the harbinger that would facilitate fuller participation by vulnerable groups such as weaker sections and low income groups in the financial system. This paper aims to study the determinants that measure the extent of financial inclusion and focuses on the computation of an index that would comprehensively capture the impact of multi-dimensional variables with specific reference to India, using the latest available data. Past studies have omitted one or the other dimensions impacting financial inclusion, for various reasons. However, since each of the dimensions is critical, incorporating as many dimensions as possible will result in a more holistic of financial inclusion. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has initiated several measures to enhance the financial inclusion in India. The impetus came from schemes like relaxed KYC norms, rsquo;no-frills’ accounts and “General Credit Cards” for small deposits and credit since 2005-06.
