TL;DR: In this paper, the advances in using nano-materials in hot mix asphalt are reviewed and a reasonable selection of nanomaterials used in asphalt, nano-modified asphalt can offer many benefits in cold regions.
Abstract: This paper reviews the advances in using nano-materials in hot mix asphalt. The clay nano-particles are the primary materials applying in asphalt construction. Adding nano-particles like nanoclay, nanosilica, and nanotubes in asphalts normally increase the viscosity of asphalt binders and improves the rutting and fatigue resistance of asphalt mixtures. Using nanoclay as the second modifier in polymer modified asphalts can improve the storage stability and the aging resistance of polymer modified asphalts. Various Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) techniques (e.g. tapping mode imaging, force spectroscopy, and nano-indentation) as well as X-ray diffraction (XRD) experiments can be conducted on modified asphalt binders to characterize the micro or nano-scale structures of nano-asphalts. Through the reasonable selection of nano-materials used in asphalt, nano-modified asphalt can offer many benefits in cold regions.

TL;DR: In this article, a conceptual BIM-based model that can improve the post-occupancy evaluation process and meet the industry requirements for sustainable buildings is introduced, which can be used to monitor the behaviour of buildings and make critical decisions to ensure that the energy criteria of the design are really met in practice.
Abstract: For a sustainable building, the use of energy always concerns clients and designers. In this respect, the UK national regulation on energy performance and ‘carbon’ accounting has asked for a greater consistency of construction information to achieve the CO2 emission target. Therefore, Clients and Industry should work closely together in developing plans to make the transition to low carbon buildings feasible in order to meet the CO2 emission target. In this context, Building Information Modelling (BIM) can play a key role in addition to its capability to create more homogenisation of the construction supply-chain. For the energy analysis packages, the designers usually receive feedback on their design; such as how much energy the building will use, what are the anticipated CO2 emissions and if the building will pass performance criteria (such as: LEED or BREEAM). BIM applications for energy analysis have been introduced to improve this process but mostly at the design stage. However, for the post-occupancy stage, there is a need for a proper and systematic methodology to monitor the behaviour of buildings and to make critical decisions to ensure that the energy criteria of the design are really met in practice. This paper introduces a conceptual BIM-based model that can improve the post-occupancy evaluation process and meet the industry requirements for sustainable buildings.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyze the main four topics related to CRS and innovation, starting with Corporate Social Innovation, which refers to a product innovation with a social purpose, in addition, the important subtheme of corporate social innovation focused on low-income market - Base of the Pyramid (BOP).
Abstract: Nowadays, CSR and Innovation are the foundation of business competencies. CRS and innovation has emerged slowly over the past decade. Improvements in the CRS process can refer to as ‘social innovation’. Companies should do more to tackle the issues such as: social justices, poverty and climate change. The only successful brands of the future will be the ones that see these challenges as opportunities for innovation, rather than risks to be alleviated. As stated by the department of Trade and Industry in the United Kingdom, CSR represent “the integrity with which a company govern itself, fulfils its mission, lives by its value, engages with its stakeholders, measures its impact and reports on its activities” . Further, we analyze the main four topics related to CRS and innovation, starting with Corporate Social Innovation; which will refer to a product innovation with a social purpose, in addition we will focus on the important subtheme of corporate social innovation focused on low-income market - Base of the Pyramid (BOP). Moreover, Social Entrepreneurship will be analyzed since they act as the change agents for society, seizing opportunities others miss and improving systems, inventing new approaches, and creating solutions to change society for the better. Likewise, the paper will point the significance of Eco–Innovation as a new discipline with the purpose of describing products and processes that contribute to sustainable development.

Speed during walking and crossing is modelled by continuous distribution function for various types of facilities. The analysis shows that the pedestrian speed is different for different locations, gender, and facilities. F-test suggests that there is a significant difference between pedestrian walking speed and crossing speed. The pedestrian speed on precinct is found significantly different from that on other facilities.
TL;DR: A robust method for automated detection and assessment of potholes, cracks and patches from real life video clips of Indian highways is proposed in this article, where the proposed method can be used for determining maintenance levels of Indian roads and taking further appropriate actions for repair and rehabilitation.
Abstract: Potholes, cracks and patches are some types of road surface distresses whose assessment is essential in India. In the current field practices, road distress data assessment is reported to be done through distress data collection and processing of the collected raw data. At present, distress data collection is increasingly being automated by using various imaging systems. However, analysis of the collected raw video clips for distress assessment is still predominantly being done manually. This is expensive, time consuming and slows down the road maintenance management. In this paper, a robust method for automated detection and assessment of potholes, cracks and patches from real life video clips of Indian highways is proposed. In the proposed method, potholes, cracks and patches are detected and quantified automatically using various image processing techniques supported by heuristically derived decision logic. For testing its performance, the proposed method has been implemented under a Windows environment using OpenCV library. The results are evaluated through accuracy and precision- recall metrics and compared with the methods presented by earlier researchers as well as current practices in the field. And the proposed method is found to be more robust and efficient. The information extracted using the proposed method can be used for determining maintenance levels of Indian roads and taking further appropriate actions for repair and rehabilitation.

TL;DR: This paper presented an overview of glass-ceiling type barriers in organizations based on the perceptions of a sample of French and Turkish mid-level women managers and investigated how women in middle management perceive their career advancement opportunities and what they consider their organizations to be doing to support their advancement.
Abstract: The situation where gender pay gaps are typically wider at the top of the wage distribution is known as the ‘glass ceiling’. It is one of the most compelling metaphors recently used for analyzing inequality between men and women in the workplace, in order to describe a barrier to further advancement once women have attained a certain level. The general-case glass ceiling hypothesis states that not only is it more difficult for women than for men to be promoted up levels of authority hierarchies within workplaces but also that the obstacles women face relative to men become greater as they move up the hierarchy. This study presents an overview of glass-ceiling type barriers in organizations based on the perceptions of a sample of French and Turkish mid-level women managers. This study investigates how women in middle management perceive their career advancement opportunities and what they consider their organizations to be doing to support their advancement. This study begins with an introduction of the concept of a glass ceiling that prevents women from advancing, and then continues with previous studies on corporate practices and data analysis of samples from French and Turkish organizations. The objective of this work is to summarize the Glass Ceiling Phenomenon and make a comparison of different arguments of researchers. In particular with this study, It has been pointed out that most past research has been relied on indirect tests which fail to distinguish studies of the glass ceiling effect who have investigated a variety of labour market outcomes such as promotions ( Powell and Butterfield, 1994 , Yap and Konrad(2009)), women carrier (Belgihiti Kartochian, Laufer(2004)), inequality (David J. Maume Jr.) and sex segregation (Mia Hultin, 2003 ).
