Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a selection of problems of fluid mechanics which are related to one another by their relevance to a possible hypersonic aircraft is discussed, with the main aerodynamic characteristics being that the means for providing volume, lift and propulsion, all produce shock waves in the air during the high-speed phase of flight, and the type of flow changes with flight speed.

TL;DR: The subject of magnetohydrodynamic shocks and their stability is well covered in a recent monograph by Anderson as mentioned in this paper, and the conclusions reached on shock stability are no different from Anderson's except that some reservation is made on the instability of switch-on and switch-off shocks.
