Abstract: The spiritual/religious coping (SRC) refers to the way people use faith to cope with stress and has been associated with improvements in qu ality o f life a nd phy sical and mental health. The aim of this article was to d escribe the e laboration and construct validation p rocess of the Spiritual/Religious Coping Scale (SRCOPE Scale), the first i nstrument t o measure SRC in Brazil, based on RCOPE Scale (Pargament & cols., 2000). The study comprehended two phases: (1) translation, adaptation and pilot test (N=50); (2) field test (N=616) and construct validation. Factorial, internal consistency and correlation analysis indicated SRCOPE Scale a s a valid and reliable instrument. It assesses both positives and negatives aspects of SRC, resulting in a comprehensive, functional oriented, theoretical and empirically based, and clinically meaningful instrument, useful to different scientific research areas.

Abstract: Risk, protection and resilience are current issues in mental development researches. Risk factor concept is already well Risk, protection and resilience are current issues in mental development researches. Risk factor concept is already well delimited, but protection factors and resilience are still mixed. Risk factors are related to environmental variables that increase the probability of bad consequences in development. On the other hand, the protection factors are associated to individual resources that decrease the risk effects, while resilience is usually related to individual protection factors that predict positive consequences in individuals exposed to an environment of risk. This paper shows how some studies describe those issues (risk, protection and resilience), pointing factors that can make an individual more or less vulnerable to risk, and also, the way some can be resilient when facing the adversities. That is, how some children and adolescents can overcome all the risk factors they have been exposed to and still develop as expected.

Abstract: This study investigated the concepts of 10 teachers and six school administrators, from public schools of Sao Paulo, regarding School Inclusion. The participants were interviewed and the data transcription was submitted to analysis of content. Teachers and principals pointed out several aspects on the Inclusive Education. Some of their concepts involved principles of school integration and others the school inclusion itself. The participants expressed some difficulties to make t he Inclusive Education happen, such as, lack of professional graduation and technique support to work with students in regular classrooms. Multidisciplinary staff support, additional in-service training, adaptive school structures and teaching material resources, experience in teaching students with special needs, positive attitude from educators toward inclusion, as well as family and community assistance, were the suggestions provided. The results allowed the identification of the necessary aspects to accomplish the Inclusive Education.

Abstract: The objective of the present study was to investigate women's size and shape body perception using the Nine-figure Outline Scale. A total of 150 women were divided into five groups according to body mass index (BMI): non-obese, overweight and grade I, II and III obese women. The options were classified in representations of normal, real and ideal body size and shape. It was evident that the men and women's choice for normal sizes, in the five groups, were predominantly connected to the representation of low body weight. In the self-assessment of the real body size and shape, it was noticed a broad distribution of choices, although with the exception of the pre-obesity group, the majority of women from the other groups made compatible choices with their BMI. The ideal body size and shape was associated with representative figures of low body weight. The data indicate the relevance of the differences between the adequacy of real and ideal perception, pointing at the difficulties related to body self-perception.

Abstract: The objective of this article was to investigate the parental support received by children directed for psychological attendance due to poor academic achievement, in comparison with children not sent to psychological attendance. Participants consisted of 60 children from 7 to 11 years of age and their mothers, selected at a psychology clinic and at school, both public ones. The support was evaluated in three domains: academic, developmental and emotional. The child was evaluated regarding his/her intelligence level, performance at school and the presence of behavior problems. In agreement with previous studies, the studied group showed lower academic and cognitive development and greater incidence academic of problems regarding behavior. The academic support did not differ among the groups. Mothers of referred children showed less developmental and emotional support, with problems in the educational practices and conflicting relationship parent-child. The results point out the need of mental health care for vulnerable children that live in an environment with little support.

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to review the literature on mother-infant interaction in the context of maternal depression. Particularly, it aimed to examine several factors that could mediate the maternal depression impact on infant development, such as the child's age and temperament, the chronicity of the maternal depression episode and the depressed mother's interaction style. The literature reviewed shows that depression affects not only the mother, but also the baby and even the father, because of its influence on the family context. Some studies also suggest that the father's presence, as wel l as, the absence of marital conflict , may buffer the maternal depression effects on the baby.

Abstract: O momento da escolha profissional e visto como essencial na percepcao do adolescente, da familia e da sociedade. Por ser considerado um momento importante o adolescente sente necessidade de ter apoio da familia e dos pares durante o periodo de escolha. O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar as percepcoes dos adolescentes quanto a influencia da familia e de terceiros na escolha profissional. Participaram 16 ex-orientandos de um programa de orientacao profissional de uma universidade publica federal, cinco (5) do sexo masculino e onze (11) do sexo feminino, com idades variando entre 16 e 18 anos. Foram realizadas duas entrevistas abertas. Os dados foram analisados a partir da Epistemologia Qualitativa proporta por Gonzalez-Rey (1997), com a retirada de indicadores e a construcao de zonas de sentido a partir do discurso dos adolescentes. Os indicadores na primeira entrevista sugeriram a influencia dos pais e na segunda entrevista, a influencia dos pares.

Abstract: The study aimed at describing coping strategies of people living with HIV/AIDS and identifying associations between modalities of coping and sociodemographic variables s uch as s ex, schooling and marital status, as well as clinical ones (symptomatic versus asymptomatic c onditions). A convenience sample was composed with 241 HIV+ people, 161 (66,8%) were men b etween the a ges of 20 and 64 (M=37,4), 169 (70,1%) symptomatic. The instruments used included structured qu estionnaires and a Brazilian version o f a scale for measure strategies of coping, with assisted application and fulfilling of scale without t he presence of researchers. Results s howed variability in the c oping strategies used, with predomination of problem-focused coping. Amongst women and less educated individuals there was a prevalence of emotion- focused coping and search for religious practices. The results provide subsidy for HIV-positive patients to draw sustenance from psychological support. Limitations of conceptualization and evaluation of coping are discussed and must be taken into consideration for future reference in further research.

Abstract: Considering the increase of chronic conditions in the elderly people, more attention has been given to the identification of the psychological and social factors that can affect the well-being and the quality of life of individuals with incapacities. The psychological and social resources that the individual disposes are clues to determine the implications of the functional incapacity in the life of affected people. This review has the objective to present some ways which the individuals face their losses in physical functions and social roles, and in which extension the psychological and social resources operate over the negative effects of the chronic conditions in the elderly quality of life. Among the explainable variables presented there is the social support, the positive emotional states and beliefs, the affectionate regulation, the mechanism of social comparison, the sense of self-sufficiency, the selection-optimization-compensation mechanism and the coping mechanisms.

Abstract: In face of the challenge to build knowledge on the psychological aspects of gender entrepreneurship in Brazil, this study aims to analyze the worries of entrepreneurial women worries and their subjective well-being. Forty-nine women owning business in various areas of activity in Rio de Janeiro were interviewed at their companies. A self-evaluation measure showed that entrepreneurial women shared an overall high level of quality of life, based mainly on their satisfaction at work, with children and with self-respect. Data indicated that multiple roles played by entrepreneurs are equally relevant. Qualitative analysis of the interviews revealed that those women are fearless and self-confident, though they have worries related to the company financial aspects and growth. Self-satisfied, passionately identified with their firms, they perceive themselves in an achievement continuous process. Problems related to discrimination and to multiple role-playing, as well as all other data are discussed in the light of the literature on gender entrepreneurship.

Abstract: This work is a result of reflexions on the Ecology of Human Development of Urie Bronfenbrenner associated to thoughts of Environmental Education scientists. The focus of this article is to understand the relation among perception, drawing and the concept of molar activity under the ecological perspective of Bronfenbrenner. We supposed that drawing is also a way to express with creativity the perception children have of their own environment. The importance of imagination and the potential of expression of drawing will be emphasized as a relevant tool to build knowledge and integrate experiences which are originally from different contexts. These graphic experiences are part of psychological evolution and are essential to raise sensitive and creative individuals who are able to transcend and transform reality. In order to work with these ideas we bring examples of children's drawings produced in a non governmental institution located in the extreme south of Brazil and we propose environmental education through art education.

Abstract: There is a need to view homework (HW) as a process for which a vast number of obstructive factors converges. In this report the interrelations between students of English as a Foreign Language, homework attitudes and behaviors, and their parents' education and students' perceived self-efficacy in EFL are analyzed. The correlation between students' EFL homework attitudes and behaviors and students' self-regulated learning profiles are also discussed. The study involved 3929 students, from 5 th to 9 th grades compulsory education. The collected data evidenced the positive and significant associations between EFL students' attitudes and behaviors towards homework and the parents' education and students' perceived self-efficacy in EFL. The correlation between EFL students' attitudes and behaviors towards homework and students' self-regulated learning profiles proves to be positive and significant. Calling the attention of teachers and educators to the main role of motivational and self-regulatory aspects involved in the learning process and, particularly, in the homework process, is the ultimate feature of the present article.

Abstract: *RESUMO. Neste a rtigo, problematiza-se a realizacao d e praticas psicologicas mais compativeis com os principios que orientam a organizacao d a a tencao a saude no SUS e os desafios decorrentes da insercao d e psicologos na saude c oletiva. Tem-se como objetivo apresentar uma proposta de atuacao psicologica coletiva como uma estrategia de trabalho no campo da saude c oletiva, destacando a importância de um carater mais s ocioculturalmente orientado. Atraves de e ntrevistas s emiestruturadas descreveram-se trajetorias profissionais de psicologos, distribuidos em UBSs da Secretaria Municipal de Saude de Salvador-BA, em 2003. Para isto u tilizaram-se tres modalidades de trajetorias profissionais, considerando as praticas psicologicas desenvolvidas e os s ignificados a e las atribuidos: de c onflito, de reproducao e de c onstrucao. Definiu-se a atuacao psicologica coletiva e tomou-se para este artigo uma trajetoria profissional de construcao como ponto de partida.

Abstract: The present study aimed at studying the aggressive behaviors of male children in school and its relation to domestic violence. For such purpose, 28 male children and their mothers were evaluated, 14 of them showed aggression in schools (Group A) and were compared to 14 children of the same sex and income who did not present aggression (Group B). Data were initially gathered by the teachers of three elementary schools of an inland city of Sao Paulo state. Afterwards, data were taken with the children's mothers in their respective homes. General results point to the occurrence of violence in both groups; however, the group of aggressive children had more incidents and more severity of violence. Final considerations point to the need for further research in order to expand the knowledge of aggressive behavior and its relationship to domestic violence.

Abstract: Considerando-se a importância da criatividade na sociedade contemporânea, realizou-se esta pesquisa com o objetivo de investigar o que foi produzido sobre a tematica entre 1994 e 2001 nos programas de pos-graduacao em Psicologia no Brasil. Foram analisados 68 resumos de teses/dissertacoes, disponiveis na base de dados da Capes. Os resumos foram analisados conforme as categorias identificacao, tipo de estudo, tematica principal, linguagem artistica e referencial teorico. Contatou-se que ha uma concentracao de trabalhos realizados nas regioes Sudeste e Centro-Oeste do Brasil. Observou-se uma predominância de estudos experimentais (39%), levantamentos (27,1%) e estudos de caso (18,6%). Quanto a tematica enfocada houve certa variacao, com trabalhos em diferentes areas, destacando-se os referentes a pratica pedagogica (39,7%). Com relacao as abordagens teoricas, as mais utilizadas foram a psicometrica (33,8%) e a psicanalitica (19,1%). Constatou-se, por fim, o crescimento do numero de teses/dissertacoes defendidas nesses ultimos anos sobre criatividade, o que pode indicar um maior interesse pela tematica.

Abstract: We have developed a study under ethnographic basis with men from popular classes, fathers of children under 6 years old, trying to find out their experiences regarding paternity; making logical links between discourse and practice. We used participative observation, through frequent visits to homes for a nine-month period and semi-structured interviews. We have found that, for the interviewed men, the feeling of being a father is not determined by the biological link to the child, but strongly influenced by the quality of relation they have with their female partner and their own experience as a son. Being a provider is a necessary condition to have an affective relation with their children, in which physical care tends to be excluded as they consider it to be a feminine work. Being present as a father involves multiple, concrete, and psychic senses. As a conclusion, we suggest that this subject should be kept on continue studies, noticing three different levels - socio-cultural, relational and individual - and it should be included in the health practices discussion.

Abstract: The goal of this study was to analyze the relations between educational institutions and the act of playing of their students. Subjects of the study were 40 children, of both genders, 4-5 years of age, and 10 educators of five preschool institutions. The procedures for data collection included the videotaping of the children during unstructured recreation in the ir own institution and interviews with the educators. The main results indicate that the educational institutes are influential ov er the play behavior of their students. It was also verified that there is incoherence between the understanding and the practice of the professionals, regarding play. These results indicate a necessity to integrate the pedagogical agenda, the practices of formal curriculum and play, transforming and improving the quality of education offered by educational institutions.

Abstract: Scientific literature review shows that Harm Reduction (HR) articles focus mainly the discussion about the implications of different drug users treatment models and the efficiency of HR with injection drug users. However, there are few studies about HR workers. In this context, the present article aims to discuss the work of outreachworkers, proposing an analysis of how the discursive formations about drugs and Aids, in contemporary society, influence the work and the subjectivity of the outreachworkers, as well as the possibilities of having "sustainable projects" as a way to include harm reduction practices in public health services.

Abstract: The present study discusses the meaning of family bonding for sheltered children, victims of domestic violence. These children's hope of recovering the family ties is analyzed as a search for a psychosocial status. The sheltered children, who suffered a rupture in the primeval filiation and history of life, float among ephemeral bonding, without references of their past and without fixed and solid points for their establishment in the present to serve as a guide or new filiations. Such condition of unfilial behavior is focused as a tendency of the c ontemporary society in loosening bonding, moving psychosocial status and p roducing non-stable situations favoring a movable subjectivity where family ties is not a priority. As a conclusion, it is appointed a historical continuity of oppression of the childhood caused by the condition of transitional attachment in their lives, impeding the building of solid and long term ties in order to allow a sufficient stability and support to face life.

Abstract: The relationship between aggressiveness and peer acceptance-rejection were analyzed in 1281 elementary school children. Sociometric measure was based on three positive and three negative classmates choices. The aggressiveness scales gathered information about familiar, scholar and general situations. There were no statistically insignificant differen ces among the schools related to the sociometric and aggressiveness in familiar situation measures. The scales of the scholar and general aggressiveness formed two sub-groups, in which two schools showed less aggressiveness and the two other more aggressiveness. Scholar aggressiveness showed significant correlations with the sociometric status in all schools and the general aggressiveness in one of them, suggesting that the most social acceptance, the lesser the student's aggressiveness. As the correlations were low, extreme groups in acceptance-rejection conditions had been studied and the scales of scholar and general aggressiveness had differentiated these groups in only one school.

Abstract: O estudo investigou as implicacoes da condicao de maternidade e de nao-maternidade para a construcao da auto-estima pessoal e coletiva das mulheres, mediante o teste das hipoteses de que os indices de auto-estima pessoal e de auto-estima coletiva obtidos por mulheres maes seriam significativamente maiores do que os indices obtidos por mulheres nao-maes. A amostra foi composta por 310 mulheres, com idades variando entre 30 e 69 anos, distribuidas em um grupo de maes e um outro de nao-maes, as quais foram solicitadas a responder as versoes brasileiras da Escala de Auto-Estima de Rosenberg e da Escala de Auto-Estima Coletiva. A analise dos resultados revelou que as duas hipoteses do estudo foram corroboradas. Concluiu-se que as concepcoes e representacoes tradicionais acerca da maternidade ainda desempenham um importante papel na configuracao da identidade feminina.

Abstract: Socially desirable behaviors promote development but behavior problems prevent the access to new reinforcement contingencies that could facilitate the acquisition of relevant learning repertoires. This work investigated assessments of mothers concerning socially "desirable" and "undesirable" behaviors in children whose teachers identified as having behavior problems. The sample consisted of 24 mothers of children indicated as having behavioral problems, and 24 mothers of children indicated as presenting socially desirable behaviors. Data about children's behaviors were collected during a home interview, when the Socially Desired Behavior Questionnaire and the Rutter Scale for Parents were filled out. Results indicated more externalized behavior problems among children previously identified as having problems, but there was no group difference in socially desirable behavior. Children in both groups had high socially desirable behavior scores, thus showing behavioral resources. Nevertheless, in both groups there were children who could benefit from programs to promote more balanced social interactions in order to prevent behavioral problems.

Abstract: Recently, workplace bullying has received increased attention and has been recognised as an important social problem. The aim of the present study was to analyze in an exploratory way whether exist gender differences as much on bullying as on its dimensions. Data were collected with the "Bullying at Work Questionnaire" (Moreno-Jimenez, Rodriguez- Munoz, Garrosa, Morante & Rodriguez, 2004), in a sample of 103 employees of the Community of Madrid. The results showed significant differences between men and women in Bullying, Social Isolation and Discredit. These data support the hypothesis that the fact of being women supposes an additional risk of being bullied at work.

Abstract: Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo investigar as relacoes entre o uso de bebidas alcoolicas e comportamentos violentos a partir da organizacao familiar em familias de uma comunidade de baixa renda localizada em Recife, Pernambuco. Foram entrevistadas setenta e nove familias, escolhidas de forma aleatoria, distribuidas nas seis microareas que compoem a comunidade. A principio foi aplicado um questionario seguido de uma entrevista semidirigida. Os dados colhidos pelo questionario foram submetidos a analise estatistica descritiva e as entrevistas semidirigidas foram contempladas a partir da analise de conteudo. Nenhum padrao de organizacao familiar se mostrou imune ao uso de bebidas alcoolicas e a possibilidade de comportamentos violentos. O uso abusivo de bebidas alcoolicas nos finais de semana, associado a fortes pressoes socioeconomicas, estilo educacional rigido e punitivo, ambiente sociocultural complexo e exigente, conduz essas familias, frequentemente, a comportamentos violentos, impulsionados e modulados por esses mesmos elementos.

This study had the aim to assess comparatively children of alcoholics and children of nonalcoholics. The Human Figure Drawing Test was used to assess their cognitive and emotional aspects. To assess mother's behavioral aspects the Rutter's Scale was used. Subjects: 20 children of alcoholics (COAs) and 20 children of nonalcoholics (Non-COAs), 9 to 12 years of age, enrolled at elementary school. Each group was composed of 10 boys and 10 girls. Results: children of alcoholics showed difference statistically significant in emotional and behavioral aspects. They showed: shyness, insecurity and low self-esteem. According their mothers opinion they are: impatient, irritable, agitated, disobedient and dependent. The girls of alcoholics showed more emotional and behavioral problems. They showed to be more vulnerable than the boys of alcoholics regarding emotional and behavioral aspects.

Abstract: *# RESUMO. Este artigo analisa, sob a perspectiva da relacao entre a familia e instituicoes de saude, os sentidos produzidos sobre a maternidade em um programa de saude neonatal desenvolvido na rede publica ‐ o Programa Mae Canguru. A partir de entrevistas e observacoes feitas com usuarias durante sua participacao no programa, buscamos apreender como as praticas discursivas e nao discursivas sobre maternidade e maternagem, difundidas nesse processo, se articulam com as experiencias concretas dessas mulheres para produzir novas configuracoes subjetivas. Na interpretacao dos dados, realizada atraves de analise do discurso, os aspectos mais significativos das falas das entrevistadas foram agrupados em quatro nucleos de sentido: familia e religiao; o impacto do nascimento prematuro; desconfianca e resistencia nas relacoes com instituicoes e profissionais de saude; e a experiencia com o Programa Mae Canguru. Ao final, procurou-se identificar as principais estrategias e formas de singularizacao utilizadas por essas mulheres ao atribuirem sentidos ao papel materno. Abstract: Na depressao infantil os sintomas diferem dos apresentados pelos adultos, evidenciando-se frequentemente atraves de transtorno do deficit de atencao e hiperatividade, baixa auto-estima, tristeza, medos, disturbios do sono, enurese, dores abdominais. Procurou-se estudar manifestacoes depressivas em criancas de 03 a 10 anos de idade, no contexto de creches e saude publica, na cidade de Paranavai-PR, realizando-se: a) entrevistas semi-estruturadas com 5 pediatras, 2 medicos do programa da Saude da Familia, 6 educadores e 4 coordenadores de creches; b) estudo de caso com nove criancas. Os resultados indicaram que todas as criancas da amostra apresentavam nucleos depressivos significativos, com intenso sofrimento psiquico e necessidade de encaminhamento. Concluiu-se que a depressao infantil manifesta-se de forma bastante significativa, evidenciando a necessidade de que as pessoas envolvidas diretamente com as criancas estejam alertas para os sintomas, pois a falta do diagnostico correto e do tratamento perpetua o sofrimento da crianca e de todos os envolvidos.

Abstract: The relationship between researcher formation and mental suffering has been investigated in this work. Reports from a group of 21 graduate students enrolled in a biomedical excellence program at a Brazilian Federal University were a nalyzed. Qualitative methodology was used, comprising biographical method and p articipant observation. The material found revealed that mental suffering was part of the aca demic pathway followed b y this group and appeared classified under different names and different degrees. In most reports, the suffering was related to institutional handicaps (e.g. sponsorship), difficulties in carrying out t he research p roject, divulging the papers and "becoming an independent researcher.
