TL;DR: The author summarizes the key points, discusses the limitations of the model, and raises the ideas for developing a future model of ESI.
Abstract: The present manuscript is an empirically based theoretical paper that presents, describes, and examines the Bar-On Model of Emotional-Social Intelligence (ESI) in deep. First, a description of the Emotional Quotient Inventory (the EQ-i), which has played an instrumental role in developing the model, is given. The EQ-i is a self-report measure of emotionally and socially intelligent behaviour. It has been translated into more than 30 languages, and data have been collected around the world. The impact of age, gender, and ethnicity on the Bar-On model is presented. A description of the model's construct and predictive validity is given. Finally, the author summarizes the key points, discusses the limitations of the model, and raises the ideas for developing a future model of ESI.

TL;DR: This study provides a systematic examination of F‐test robustness to violations of normality in terms of Type I error, considering a wide variety of distributions commonly found in the health and social sciences.
Abstract: BACKGROUND: The robustness of F-test to non-normality has been studied from the 1930s through to the present day. However, this extensive body of research has yielded contradictory results, there being evidence both for and against its robustness. This study provides a systematic examination of F-test robustness to violations of normality in terms of Type I error, considering a wide variety of distributions commonly found in the health and social sciences. METHOD: We conducted a Monte Carlo simulation study involving a design with three groups and several known and unknown distributions. The manipulated variables were: Equal and unequal group sample sizes; group sample size and total sample size; coefficient of sample size variation; shape of the distribution and equal or unequal shapes of the group distributions; and pairing of group size with the degree of contamination in the distribution. RESULTS: The results showed that in terms of Type I error the F-test was robust in 100% of the cases studied, independently of the manipulated conditions.

TL;DR: The second edition of the CITC's "Directrices for adaptación" compuesta as discussed by the authors was presented by a group of experts from the Comision Internacional de Tests (CITC).

TL;DR: The process is illustrated with data comprising response scores to four nonacademic subscales of the Self Description Questionnaire-I for Australian and Nigerian adolescents using the EQS 6 program.
Abstract: This article presents an overview and application of the steps taken in testing for the equivalence of a measuring instrument across one or more groups. Following a basic description of, and rationale underlying these steps, the process is illustrated with data comprising response scores to four nonacademic subscales (Physical SC [Ability], Physical SC [Appearance], Social SC [Peers], and Social SC [Parents]) of the Self Description Questionnaire-I for Australian (N= 497) and Nigerian (N= 439) adolescents. All tests for validity and equivalence are based on the analysis of covariance structures within the framework of CFA models using the EQS 6 program. Prospective impediments to equivalence are suggested and additional caveats proposed in the special case where the groups under study represent different cultures.

TL;DR: The PANAS Scales of Positive and Negative Affect: Factor Analytic Validation and Cross-cultural Convergence as discussed by the authors, a 20-item self-report questionnaire, has been reported to have excelent psychometric properties with U.S. samples.
Abstract: The PANAS Scales of Positive and Negative Affect: Factor Analytic Validation and Cross-cultural Convergence. Recent evidence suggests that the structure of mood is composed of two dominant and relatively independent dimensions, i.e., positive and negative affect. Such dimensions have consistently emerged as the first two factors in factor analyses (orthogonal or oblique solutions). The Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS; Watson, Clark y Tellegen, 1988a), a 20-item self-report questionnaire, is one of the most widely used measure of affectivity and has been reported to have excelent psychometric properties with U.S. samples. This study investigated the structure of mood, as well as factorial validity of the Spanish version of the PANAS, in a sample of 712 undergraduates in Madrid. Using exploratory and confirmatory factor analytic techniques (EQS), the autores tested the PANAS structure as well as the two-factor model of mood, and examined gender differences. Results revealed a robust and stable two-dimensional structure (positive and negative affect), and provide strong support to construct validity, reliability (internal consistency) and cross-cultural validation of the Spanish PANAS.
