TL;DR: It is shown that information-processing and psychometric measures are in much closer correspondence when account is taken of one's problem-solving strategy, and the relation between g and the idea of attentional resources is explored, by applying the dual task methodology to memory and reasoning tests.
Abstract: Attempts to relate information-processing capacities to intelligence test scores have had modest success when normal subjects are used but have been very successful in showing differences between extreme groups in information-processing capacity This is illustrated by reviewing studies relating memory to verbal comprehension. The reason for these disparate results may be that in normal subjects individual competence may depend largely on differences in choice of a problem-solving strategy. Using sentence verification as an example, it is shown that information-processing and psychometric measures are in much closer correspondence when account is taken of one's problem-solving strategy. This, however, still leaves us with the problem of explaining positive manifold, i. e. the psychometric evidence for a concept of general intelligence. The relation between g and the idea of attentional resources is explored, by applying the dual task methodology to memory and reasoning tests. The results support the notion that g can be related to attentional resources.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors check the metric characteristics and the factor structure of the two scales: PII - Personal Involvement Inventory, Zaichkowsky, 1985, in the form of the semantic differential and IP -Involvement Profile, Laurent & Capferer, 1985 and Likert scale.
Abstract: Involvement into the products and services in an extremely important construct in the area of consumer behavior, marketing and advertising. Involvement is seen as a causal variable influencing the information search, decision process at the purchase, etc. The aim of this research was to check the metric characteristics and the factor structure of the two scales: PII - Personal Involvement Inventory, Zaichkowsky, 1985, in the form of the semantic differential and IP - Involvement Profile, Laurent & Capferer, 1985, in the form of Likert scale. The investigation was carried out on the sample of psychology students. The scales were tested by measuring the involvement into the product (sports shoes) and into the activity (evening outings). Cronbach Alfa coefficient is within the range of 0,75 (IP for evening outings) to 0.96 (PII for evening outings and for sport shoes). The actor structure regarding PII scale is consistent with the majority of previous findings. PII scale measures the involvement in the terms of significance, interests and relevancy. IP scale gives the more comprehensive picture of dimensions at the basis of involvement.

TL;DR: Amazon’s Mechanical Turk is a reliable source of data for complex linguistic tasks in heavy use by psycholinguists and suggestions for best practices in data collection and scrubbing are provided.
Abstract: Amazon's Mechanical Turk service makes linguistic experimentation quick, easy, and inexpensive. However, researchers have not been certain about its reliability. In a series of experiments, this paper compares data collected via Mechanical Turk to those obtained using more traditional methods One set of experiments measured the predictability of words in sentences using the Cloze sentence completion task (Taylor, 1953). The correlation between traditional and Turk Cloze scores is high (rho=0.823) and both data sets perform similarly against alternative measures of contextual predictability. Five other experiments on the semantic relatedness of verbs and phrasal verbs (how much is 'lift' part of 'lift up') manipulate the presence of the sentence context and the composition of the experimental list. The results indicate that Turk data correlate well between experiments and with data from traditional methods (rho up to 0.9), and they show high inter-rater consistency and agreement. We conclude that Mechanical Turk is a reliable source of data for complex linguistic tasks in heavy use by psycholinguists. The paper provides suggestions for best practices in data collection and scrubbing.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present the concept of measurement equivalence, its relationship with other related concepts, different equivalence levels and causes of inequivalence in cross-cultural research.
Abstract: In cross-cultural comparative studies it is essential to establish equivalent measurement of relevant constructs across cultures. If this equivalence is not confirmed it is difficult if not impossible to make meaningful comparison of results across countries. This work presents concept of measurement equivalence, its relationship with other related concepts, different equivalence levels and causes of inequivalence in cross-cultural research. It also reviews three main approaches to the analysis of measurement equivalence - multigroup confirmatory factor analysis, differential item functioning, and multigroup latent class analysis - with special emphasis on their similarities and differences, as well as comparative advantages.
