Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, a C band radar calibration method is presented for agricultural areas near Paris on three different types of surface: wheat stubble, sugar beet, and corn, and it has been found that the sensitivity of radar backscattering coefficient δ 0 to surface soil moisture agrees well with the results obtained by Ulaby et al. (1979) when soil moisture values are expressed as percentage of the field capacity.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Using the multitemporal multispectral data acquired by Landsat satellites and a physical model describing this behavior, new features that are crop specific have been derived and this feature space is two-dimensional irrespective of the number of Landsat observations.

67 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a method of population estimation using the multi-spectral scanner (MSS) data is introduced. But the method is limited to the use of ground-covering materials and the land use of the area.

66 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: An examination of limitations, requirements, and precision of the linear multiple-regression technique for quantification of marine environmental parameters is conducted and recommendations are made concerning improved selection of ground-truth locations to maximize variance and to minimize physical errors associated with the remote sensing experiment.

65 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, a detailed winter sea surface temperature (SST) pattern in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea is derived from meteorological satellite thermal infrared images, and the isotherms in the pattern are calibrated by temperature measurements in situ.

62 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated large-area relations between satellite spectral data and end-of-season crop yield and found a linear relation between GIN and yield up to GIN values of 40 or 50, covering cases of severe to moderate stress.

45 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a regression model is developed between the surface truth data and Landsat digital data for 29 sample sites, and then extended over the entire study area, and results are in general agreement with reported salinity distribution values.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a light aircraft to take photographic measurements of percent reflected visible light and percent polarised visible light (percent PVL) from two summer days and two winter days.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured microwave emission from bare and vegetated fields with dual polarized radiometers at 1.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies and compared the measured brightness temperatures over bare fields with those calculated from radiative transfer theory with two constant parameters characterizing surface roughness effect.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: A technique has been developed by the authors that uses the horizontal first difference to automatically select the optimum kernel-size that should be used to enhance the edges that are contained in the image.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, an HRB Singer AN/AAS 14 optical-electronic thermal infrared scanning system was used to test its utility for monitoring one aspect of the water management scheme, the conveyance or canal system.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, single-leaf reflectance measurements for the MC-treated cotton plants were lower at 650 nm and higher at 850 nm than the untreated cotton plants for three of the four sample dates.

Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this article, the Lommel-Seeliger law of reflection is applied to the digital terrain data for the Santa Clara valley-Mt. Hamilton region of California, available from the U.S. National Cartographic Information Center.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, a method for estimating the reflectance of ground sites from satellite radiance data is proposed and tested using the known ground reflectance from several sites and satellite data gathered over a wide range of solar zenith angles.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, it has been shown that over the tropical oceans the total precipitable water can be estimated from the infrared radiometer data (10.5-12.5 μm) of the Geostationary Meteorological Satellite.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the types of urban data that can be detected and/or inferred from satellite-borne L-band systems and compared the contribution of each technique and benefits of combining the data from both procedures.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Two unsupervised classification procedures were applied to ratioed and unratioed LANDSAT multispectral scanner data of an area of spatially complex vegetation and terrain and the monocluster block approach gave higher accuracies than clustering the entire area.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, four dates of Heat Capacity Mapping Mission (HCMM) data were analyzed in order to evaluate HCMM thermal data use in estimating near-surface soil moisture in a complex agricultural landscape.
