Abstract: There is now an urgent need for microform resource service center development to cope with the growing crisis in library space requirements, collection growth, and especially serial acquisitions as a result of inflation and age neml reordering of nationalpriorities. Trends, pmctices, gmnts, and solutions (theoretical and otherwise) are extractedfmm recentlypublished litemture to suggest that thisproposal is an eminently feasible goal for present problems. Some issue is taken with the recent networking developments that improve bibliographic information exchange only to discourage interlibrary loans through the imposition of high service fees by a growing number of libraries. Further, collection integrity is a Proformance Rating(a la Gore-Theswell) factor achieve with a microform resource service center that is unlikely ever to be ever realized through other service storage models, including the Phoenix Library Plan.

Abstract: A description is given of a project involving the measurement of faculty perceived needs for the titles in a collection consisting of over 4,000 serials commenced in the Spring of 1977. Data obtained from the forced-choice ratings given to titles by various of the 41 departments in the University were used in retention/cancellation decision- making; and the methodology was subsequently applied to the selection of additional titles. The methodology and applications are critiqued and compared to those in several other relevant projects completed in recent years.

Abstract: Microcomputers offer considerable power and versatility for library applications. They are inexpensive and can provide quality output. Word pro cessing alone can justify the equipment expenditure and custom programming can be done later. One application described is a guide to indexed periodicals in education now being ex panded for publication. Another is a Guide to Periodicals in Criminal Justice soon to be published. By-product data from this publication may be of research value. The UNC-G group in considering organizing a turnkey system for libraries. Microcomputers are useful even where large computers are auailable, are suitable for small libraries, and provide an excellent way to get started in library computing.

TL;DR: A more comprehensive interloan system encompassing nearly all county libraries was successfully instituted, and a factor in the success of the system was the use of telecopiers in the transmittal of requests.
Abstract: Libraries in a suburban county in southeastern Wisconsin not served by a library system encountered problems providing prompt interlibrary loan service to their users. After a trial informal interloan agreement was established by four libraries. A more comprehensive interloan system encompassing nearly all county libraries was successfully instituted. A factor in the success of the system was the use of telecopiers in the transmittal of requests. Advantages of and problems with telecopiers in the system are discussed briefly.

TL;DR: In order to get the most out of the budget dollar and to maintain continuity in serial runs, claiming was finally instituted and in a period of only six weeks plans were laid, titles were checked, visual signals were placed on those records to be claimed regularly, and the claiming began immediately.
Abstract: For a uariety of reasons the serials department of this academic library has not been systematically reviewing its records for claiming purposes. In order to get the most out of the budget dollar and to maintain continuity in serial runs, claiming was finally instituted. In a period of only six weeks plans were laid more than 42,000 titles were checked, visual signals were placed on those records to be claimed regularly, and the claiming began immediately. Problems solved in the processing of claims resulted in improved procedures in Serials Acquisitions. Major gaps were filled-a plus for holdings, a minus for the budget. Major and secondary benefits are reported, and the procedures, as adjusted prove to be realistic for long-term use.

TL;DR: The 24 annotations represent core serials in parapsychology andserials in occultism which appeal to the general public and those serials of importance to college, university, and public libraries.
Abstract: Occultism and parapsychology are fields that many librarians approach with caution. Part of this caution comes from lack of definition and distinction between these two areas. An attempt is made to define the differences and to list those serials of importance to college, university, and public libraries. The 24 annotations represent core serials in parapsychology and serials in occultism which appeal to the general public.
