TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide useful methodological insights into implementation of new service business models and the effect of servitization is industry specific and hence insights from a wide range of industries are included.
Abstract: Servitization is the move towards selling traditional product to selling a wide range of product-service bundle combinations. This movement contributes to firm sustainability and profitability and hence the competitiveness of nations. Key points: 1. Servitization directly effects firm performance and territorial competitiveness. The special issue includes articles at both levels of analysis. 2. The effect of servitization is industry specific and hence insights from a wide range of industries are included here; among them engine production, construction, the music industry and cloud computing 3. The reduction of cost and the maximization of revenues are the main drivers of servitization. Contributions provide useful methodological insights into implementation of new service business models.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a value framework which captures how manufacturing engineering firms are transforming from product to complex service provision where the service is delivered within the customer's dynamic environment and their ability to capture worth is determined by the success of their customer.
Abstract: This paper presents a value framework which captures how manufacturing engineering firms are transforming from product to complex service provision where the service is delivered within the customer’s dynamic environment and their ability to capture worth is determined by the success of their customer. Key points: 1. A value framework presents the business models for service transformation which requires managers to consider and capture their value proposition, value realisation and worth capture processes 2. A characterisation of a particular form of service, named complex deployed responsive services [CDRS] 3. CDRS are delivered in partnership with customers, realised off-site and in the customer’s environment and must be responsive to their demands such that their success determines the success of the provider. 4. Application of the value framework to a number of business-to-business CDRS has demonstrated its utility in identification and understanding of opportunities for worth capture 5. The proposed framework helps firms consider how to avoid value slippage, which is the process where the value creator is unable to capture the worth from their effort.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used profits as a proxy for performance of the music industry and confirmed the link between the fall in industry revenues and firm profits, indicating that the large firms adapt better to technological and economic disruptions.
Abstract: The music industry, as other creative industries, has suffered dramatic decrease in performance due to the digital disruption. While in the previous literature revenues are viewed as a proxy for performance, this paper uses profits, confirming the link between the fall in industry revenues and firm profits. Profi ts have decreased more for local fi rms than multinationals, indicating that the large firms adapt better to technological and economic disruptions

Abstract: The holistic approach of the technological, organizational, and environmental (TOE) framework, which is based on resource-based theory (RBT), puts forward a valid theoretical background on how different contextual factors contribute to improve e-business value. TOE factors, except firm size, positively affect the ability of e-businesses to generate high value with regard to the strategic alignment between their competitive strategies and dynamic capabilities.

TL;DR: In this article, a review of information systems management literature attempts to unravel the mystery that has shrouded this topic over the past five decades, seeking to provide top managers with a roadmap before "Crossing the Rubicon" to support the introduction of Information Systems.
Abstract: In reviewing the influence of information systems on today’s organisations, it becomes evident that top managers play a critical role in their inevitable success or failure. Yet, despite these systems strategic relevance many studies reveal a dichotomous relationship between ‘management’ and ‘information systems’, a relationship kept polarised by organisational myths resulting in the emergence of differing community perspectives. Such division is borne out in the increasingly high rates of information systems failure within practice. As strategic stewards of the organisation, top managers are noted to play a vital role in supporting information systems. Support is said to be a multifaceted concept requiring both thought and action. This paper in reviewing the information systems management literature attempts to unravel the mystery that has shrouded this topic over the past five decades. The journey seeks to provide top managers with a roadmap before ‘Crossing the Rubicon’ to support the introduction of information systems.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the propensity score matching (PSM) method to rigorously test whether the potential impact of micro credit on poverty reduction is more significant for female beneficiaries than for male in Mali.
Abstract: The objective of the paper is to rigorously test whether the potential effects of microcredit on poverty reduction are more significant for female beneficiaries than for male in Mali. The dataset we use comes from surveys conducted in 2007–2008 in Mali. It covers a large sample that compares 2400 microfinance client households, of which around 70% are microcredit beneficiaries. To do this, we perform the propensity score matching (PSM) method. Statistically, the study shows that older women have more chance of getting loans than younger women. In terms of amounts (borrowed and saved), men outweigh women. However, regarding loan amounts, women seem to use greater proportions of the loan and are more committed to using the money for income-generating purposes. At the same time, the level of savings relative to the loan amount is the same for the two genders. From an econometric perspective, this research confirms that microfinance in Mali has a positive impact on poverty alleviation in total, and higher for female than for male beneficiaries. The findings, therefore, present the importance of the length of the membership with the MFI for women. Based on these results, we can interpret this as meaning that women show efficiency in using loans for economic activity but rather in the longer term than in the short term compared to men. In light of these results, microcredit in the case of Mali seems to be effective in alleviating poverty for both men and women. In term of policy recommendations, MFIs should target men in rural areas, although this may lead to higher distribution costs in the short term, in the long term it may reduce risk and lead to higher profits. The government in partnership with donors should provide support to women entrepreneurs so that their initial learning curve is enhanced and enable them to benefit from microfinance loans, even in the short term.
