TL;DR: ACI Committee 318 has taken a fresh perspective and reorganized the Code to provide a more user-friendly back bone for design and it is believed that changes made to future versions of the Code will be more transparent and obvious such that designers do not miss new requirements.
Abstract: The structure of the current ACI Building Code has remained essentially unchanged since 1963 when ultimate strength was added. Knowledge has expanded with time through practice and research. In str...

TL;DR: Based on a simple tension chord model, problems of cracking, minimum reinforcement, tension stiffening and deformation capacity of structural concrete members are treated in a unified manner in this paper, where the authors propose a unified approach for solving the problems of minimum reinforcement and tension stiffness.
Abstract: Based on a simple tension chord model, problems of cracking, minimum reinforcement, tension stiffening and deformation capacity of structural concrete members are treated in a unified manner. Key f...

TL;DR: The Pontis bridge management system as discussed by the authors employs a network optimization model for preservation, formulated as a Markov Decision Process (MDP) for bridge preservation, which is the state-of-the-art in bridge management.
Abstract: The Pontis bridge management system is the predominant bridge management system employed in the United States. The system employs a network optimization model for preservation, formulated as a Mark...

TL;DR: In this article, a simplified seismic design procedure for cylindrical ground-supported tanks is presented, which takes into account impulsive and convective (sloshing) actions of the liquid in flexible steel or concrete tanks fixed to rigid foundations.
Abstract: Summary This paper provides the theoretical background of a simplified seismic design procedure for cylindrical ground-supported tanks. The procedure takes into account impulsive and convective (sloshing) actions of the liquid in flexible steel or concrete tanks fixed to rigid foundations. Seismic responses ‐ base shear, overturning moment, and sloshing wave height ‐ are calculated by using the site response spectra and performing a few simple calculations. An example is presented to illustrate the procedure, and a comparison is made with the detailed modal analysis procedure. The simplified procedure has been adopted in Eurocode 8.

TL;DR: In this paper, a discussion of the large variety of modern materials recently employed or soon to find application in bridge construction is presented, and a comprehensive coverage of the subject is provided.
Abstract: This paper begins with a discussion of the large variety of modern materials recently employed or soon to find application in bridge construction. Since a comprehensive coverage of the subject exce...
