TL;DR: In this paper, a survey of couples who had received counseling for marital conflict at a community mental health clinic was conducted from one to three years following the end of their treatment, and the questionnaires were analyzed with a view to discovering the relative importance of various potential marital conflict areas.
Abstract: Forty-one married couples who had received counseling for marital conflict at a community mental health clinic were surveyed from one to three years following the end of their treatment. The sample was divided into an improved and unimproved group compared for difference in terms of a number of biographical and treatment factors. Results failed to support a number of previous findings and common views as to the factors which influence the success of marriage counseling. In addition, the questionnaires were analysed with a view to discovering the relative importance of various potential marital conflict areas. With the possible exception of a new born infant, no human being rates himself an amateur when it comes to considering the whys and wherefores of interpersonal relations. Everybody seems to have opinions, and usually strong ones, about how to get along with others, about how, in short, to "handle" others. These opinions are based on personal experience rather than on systematic study of the factors related to satisfactory interpersonal relations. In this respect, professionally trained counselors can hardly be distinguished from their amateur counterparts. In no field can this be better illustrated

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examine some of the existing theories and varying conceptual frameworks for understanding the family and highlight certain concepts dealing with internal family linkages which appear to offer greater potential for helping the family.
Abstract: Social Work with families conducted in neighborhood-based, group-service agencies requires theories and concepts of family life which are tailored to contribute to practice methodology and maximize strategic advantages inherent in such settings. The same need exists among other practitioners. This paper draws on the social sciences and examines some of the existing theories and varying conceptual frameworks for understanding the family. Measured against the unique characteristics of agency practices and patterns of service, certain concepts dealing with internal family linkages are highlighted which appear to offer greater potential for helping the family.

TL;DR: In this paper, an anonymous questionnaire was answered by 545 undergraduate students at the University of Missouri to investigate the relationship between sex education and premarital petting and coital experience.
Abstract: An anonymous questionnaire was answered by 545 undergraduate students at the University of Missouri to investigate the relationship between sex education and premarital petting and coital experience. Of those who has been exposed to sex education courses 78.8% had petting experiences while 30.1% had coital experience. Among those who had not had sex education courses the figures were 79.8 and 35.6% The grade level of the sex education course has no effect on premarital experience neither did content of the course. In this study sex education per se did not affect premarital petting or coital behavior in a significant way but it is possible that certain information in such courses may affect specific types of sexual behavior. This needs investigation.

Abstract: Sex education is a new scheme designed to demoralize our youth all part of a giant conspiracy to rape the people weaken their wills and make them sensuous atheistic slaves. So runs the charge currently leveled against programs of sex education in the schools. A concerted campaign is being launched to arouse public fear and suspicion aimed at exorcising the demon of sex from the schools. "The sex educators are in league with the sexologists" writes Gordon Drake in "Blackboard Power." They represent every shade of gray morality ministers colored atheistic pink and camp followers of every persuasion; off- beat psychiatrists to ruthless publishers of pornography. The enemy is formidable at first glance but becomes awesomely powerful when we discover the interlocking directorates and working relationship of national organizations which provide havens for these degenerates. TL;DR: The attitudes toward timing of parenthood of 96 white married females were measured by a 10-item Likert-type scale as discussed by the authors, and each item discriminated significantly between upper and lower quartile scores.
Abstract: The attitudes toward timing of parenthood of 96 white married females were measured by a 10-item Likert-type scale. Each item discriminated significantly between upper and lower quartile scores. Attitude toward the desirability of having children early in marriage were significantly related to age education socioeconomic status number of children and time lapse from marriage to the birth of the first child. The data generally indicate the presence of the traditional view that children should be born early in marriage although this is opposed to the desire of young couples for delayed parenthood (authors)

TL;DR: In this article, the direction and degree of attitude changes emanating from participation in a sex education institute as well as demographic determinants of these changes were investigated and found that increased liberalism toward sex education was found.
Abstract: Professional persons enrolled in a sex education institute were studied regarding their attitudes toward sex education for adolescents. The direction and degree of attitude changes emanating from participation in the institute as well as demographic determinants of these changes were investigated. Workshop attitude change was measured in a pre-post design using the Sex Education Liberalism Scale (SELS) and the Sex Education Content Scale (SECS). Each respondent was his own control. Increased liberalism toward sex education was found. Marital status religion occupation and education were found to be discriminating variables whereas age and sex were not. (authors)

Abstract: The subjects of child development and housing have received a considerable amount of attention through scientific study and research by professionals within each of these respective fields The research studies conducted within these two spheres, however, have met infrequently at tangent points of mutual interest or interrelated problems As professionals interested in housing and others interested in child development approach the problems of poverty, the pragmatic goals of each merge in the search for greater understanding and for solutions to the multitude of problems which poverty presents Numerous research studies have dealt with the influence of various aspects of the child's total environment but the role of the physical dwelling has been neglected for the most part The research studies which have sought to identify causal relationships between housing and its effects on people have been concerned largely with the effects of housing on disease and health or on patterns of social interaction Very few have touched upon the impact of the housing environment upon human development or more particularly, the growth and development of the younger child Numerous social experiments in providing better housing (eg public housing projects) have been conducted in hopes of eliminating social problems of particularly difficult urban areas The failure of many of these indicates the limited improvement
