TL;DR: Mearsheimer as mentioned in this paper argued that if you were to ask President Obama what's the state of the American economy, he would spin like crazy, but he would not lie to us because if he did the consequences would be very great if he was found out.
Abstract: Lying is where you say something that you actually know is not true. Spinning is where you exaggerate the positive aspects of a situation and down play the negative aspects. If you were to ask President Obama, what's the state of the American economy, he would spin like crazy. He would tell you all the good things that are happening and he'd downplay the negative things, but he would not lie to us because if he did the consequences would be very great if he was found out. TL;DR: In this article, a cross-sectional dataset of 52 developing countries for the year 2011 were analyzed, the correlation matrix table and scattered graph plot results show that there are fairly strong negative correlation between malnutrition proxy by prevalence of undernutrition and household income (poverty) proxy by GNI per capita; economic development proxy by GDP per capita and access to improved water.
Abstract: This paper reviewed Copenhagen challenge paper on hunger and malnutrition in 2004 alongside opponents’ perspectives. The original challenge paper identified direct cost of malnutrition on health such as low birth weight and macronutrients deficiencies among children between ages 0-5 year. Indirect cost on economy such as low productivity due to poor cognitive development among children and absence of adult workers from work due to illness from poor nutrition were also identified. However, the original challenge paper significantly failed to address factors that could have led to the prevalence of malnutrition and hunger while proffering solution to these challenges. Hence, this paper empirically examine the relationship between undernutrition and these factors which include level of economic development, household income, access to improved water and level of calories intake. A cross section dataset of 52 developing countries for the year 2011 were analysed, the correlation matrix table and scattered graph plot results show that there are fairly strong negative correlation between malnutrition proxy by prevalence of undernutrition and (i) household income (poverty) proxy by GNI per capita; (ii) economic development proxy by GDP per capita and (iii) Access to improved water. However, the correlation between undernutrition and depth of calories deficit proved very strong and was positive. Thus, more attention need to be given to macroeconomic policies that will improve the life of the people in the economy and alleviate poverty. Basic amenities such improved and portable water should also be provided for the populace especially in developing countries where incidence of malnutrition are prevalence.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the relationship between Internet penetration, measured by the number of Internet users per 100 persons, and income inequality using the Gini Index, and found that Internet use in more developed countries was associated with a higher reduction in the inequality compared to their developing counterparts.
Abstract: The advent of technological progress has rapidly transformed the world in both positive and negative ways. Asia is one of the regions where technology and innovation have tangibly influenced lives and societies. Although the impact of technology is vast, previous studies have focused heavily on growth and productivity, with the effect on inequality underexplored. This paper examines the relationship between Internet penetration, measured by the number of Internet users per 100 persons, and income inequality using the Gini Index. While emphasizing the Asia Pacific, the econometric analysis used panel data from 191 countries around the world from 1990 to 2015. The empirical results suggested that the effects for developed and developing countries varied. Internet use in more developed countries was associated with a higher reduction in the Gini Index (lower inequality) compared to their developing counterparts. Internet penetration in the Asia Pacific did not improve inequality, although Internet use in developed Asia harmed income equality less than in developing Asia.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors tried to understand Sino-Zambia Trade Relations by examining the trends and determinants of Zambia's trade with China and the Policy implications thereof.
Abstract: In the recent past, Sub-Saharan Africa recorded impressive economic growth. Many of these countries, including Zambia, benefited from external environments, such as China’s growing demand of African raw commodities coinciding with rising commodity prices. This saw unprecedented increase in both trade and investment between China and Africa. In this context, Sino-Zambia bilateral relations have deepened, especially after 2000. It is from this context of increasing Sino-Zambia/Africa trade relations and the controversy surrounding China’s engagements in Africa that this paper tried to understand Sino-Zambia Trade Relations by examining the trends and determinants of Zambia’s trade with China and the Policy implications thereof. To achieve this, the traditional augmented Gravity Model of International Trade and selected Trade Indicators such as Trade Intensity Index, Terms of Trade and Trade Potentials were used for the analysis covering 15 countries over a period of 15 years (2000-2014) on panel data. The results indicate that Sino-Zambia bilateral trade is significantly determined by Zambia’s GDP, population and the stock of investment as well as China’s GDP per capita and the stock of investment. The results also indicated that, when China is regressed together with the other partners, using the fixed effects estimation method, only partner GDP and population determine Zambia’s bilateral trade. FDI stock, RTA and PTA also showed significant and positive coefficients in influencing Zambia’s trade while border and language were found to have a negative influence on Zambia’s trade, signifying trade barriers. Further, the analysis revealed that Sino-Zambia relations have been growing rapidly, both in scope and importance as evidenced by high Trade Intensity Index and Trade Potential; and that Sino-Zambia bilateral trade relations follow Sino-African trade relations. The paper recommends urgent investments in infrastructure development, especially transport and communications and power generation as well as the formulation of consistent and appropriate policies aimed at reducing trade barriers while promoting an export led diversification agenda. The paper further recommends further detailed studies on the economic impact of Zambia’s trade with China on the Zambian Economy and on how to promote Zambia’s agricultural trade with China.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that tourists have satisfactory and safe experiences when they participate in sports tourism programs, and they suggest that for related authorities to develop sports tourism program, various types of experiences should be incorporated to evaluate tourists to evaluate the activities they participate as appropriate and satisfactory.
Abstract: The enhancement in economic growth and national income in Taiwan in recent years as well as the 2-day weekend implemented in 2001 have caused a transformation in the lifestyle of Taiwanese people. Under the increase of both national income and leisure time, Taiwanese people’s needs for leisure activities and their emphasis on health have grown these factors have increased their intention to engage in leisure activities. Sports tourism comprises various outdoor adventurous activities (e.g., rafting, river trekking, rock climbing, mountaineering, sea kayaking, and paragliding), and this industry has grown substantially in Taiwan. In the Investigation of Trips Taken by Citizens in 2005, the Tourism Bureau showed that 9.3% of citizens who took domestic trips on weekends took them for the purpose of sports vacations. Although the figure was 2.8% lower in 2005 than that observed in 2004, the decrease was mainly caused by typhoon warnings issued on weekends, which lowered intentions to take domestic trips. Moreover, in the Investigation of Trips Taken by Citizens in 2006 released by the Tourism Bureau, most citizens (61%) took trips for the reason of purely sightseeing, followed by visiting friends and families (22%) and sports vacations (7%). In summary, people who took trips for the purposes of sightseeing, resting, and vacationing increased by 5% from 2005 to 2006. These statistics show that sightseeing trips that focus on sports vacations, namely sports tourism, have become one of the popular travel activities among Taiwanese people on 2-day weekends. The results of the present study show that in sports tourism-based activities, gaining multiple experiences (e.g., interactions that assist tourists to form closer bonds with each other, relaxation practices, stress relief, physical strength enhancement, flexibility or fitness improvement, and trust in activity instructors) is a main factor influencing tourist satisfaction in the activities they have participated in. Therefore, this study suggests that for related authorities to develop sports tourism programs, various types of experiences should be incorporated. Multiple options enable tourists to evaluate the activities they participate as appropriate and satisfactory. In addition, the revisit intentions of tourists is based on their level of satisfaction with the activities they participate in. Therefore, to enhance tourist revisit intention, this study suggests that related authorities ensure that tourists have satisfactory and safe experiences when they participate in sports tourism programs.

Abstract: Evidences from the literature have revealed that the cultural value that predominates among individuals in a society exercises an influence on their attitude, intention and behavior including those that are channeled towards entrepreneurial activities. Thus, an in-depth knowledge of the differing cultural orientation among these individuals based on their demographical or other personal characteristics can serve as a basis of understanding their entrepreneurial behavior in addition to providing a means of promoting an entrepreneurial driven cultural value. This study examined the influence of demographic characteristics: gender, marital status, age group on the tendency of university study to exhibit entrepreneurship cultural values. Three cultural predictors: perceived appropriateness, perceived consistence and perceived effectiveness were highlighted as important entrepreneurial cultural values which can be used to predict an entrepreneurial inclined intention/behavior. Furthermore, the results from the 255 copies of close ended and structured questionnaires that were considered usable for statistical analysis indicates that while no significant difference was uncovered in the constructs of appropriateness, consistence and effectiveness according to the gender group of the respondents, a statistically significant difference was however uncovered among them according to their marital status in that those students who are single have the tendency to exhibit a higher perception of entrepreneurial appropriateness. In addition, it was uncovered that those students who are between the age range of 26 and 36 are significantly higher in these three cultural predictors as compared to their younger counterparts who are within the ranges of 15-25 years, 37-47 years old, and 48 years old and above. On the basis of these findings, it was recommended that while disseminating information to foster entrepreneurial cultural change, efforts should be made to employ a segmentation strategy which will allow more concentration on the individuals who were highlighted as having less perception of entrepreneurial cultural values.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a case study about the effects of the mass media in shaping public perception, which is due to the application of social cognitive theory about mass media effects and framing theory in a case case that refers to human rights and discrimination.
Abstract: This paper presents a case study about the effects of the mass media in shaping public perception. The novelty of the research is due to the application of social cognitive theory about mass media effects and framing theory in a case study that refers to human rights and discrimination. In the case of the Romanian yoga movement and the yoga teacher Gregorian Bivolaru, 25 years of media campaigns of defamation and hate speech have a measurable effect on the public perception, as the mediated image was based on false accusations and repetitive stereotypes. The negative framing and associations of the news about MISA Yoga School had led to the marginalization and discrimination of the yoga practitioners, who are now one of the most discriminated categories of Romanian citizens. The public perception, as the quantitative research presented in this paper have shown, reproduces the mediated stereotypes. The opinion of people who know directly the yoga movement, although are not part of it, is strongly different (considerably better, according to our results) than the opinion of people who “know” the yoga movement only as a media constructed reality. Biased by the media campaign, people from the second category tend to isolate the yoga practitioners, do not trust them and are suspicious towards them. These results are consistent with the research that studied the opinion of yoga practitioners, who considered that are victims of discrimination as a consequence of the media campaign. The quantitative research consisted of a pilot survey upon 300 subjects, followed by two different researches with 1500 subjects each, that addressed the public and the persons inside the movement. Our results suggest that the two strongest effects of the hate speech and stigmatization media campaigns are the marginalization of the yoga practitioners as a social group and their discrimination in the Romanian society. The objective of this research is to better understand the social phenomena generated by the defamation of the Romanian yoga movement, in order to suggest reparatory and compensatory actions that could eliminate this case of large-scale human right violation and discrimination in post-communist Romania.

TL;DR: If encryption is not implemented correctly, it can cause security problems, and encryption provides good facilities for information security such as improved methods of authentication, message compression, digital signatures, non-repudiation capabilities, and encrypted network communications.
Abstract: This research was conducted by purpose of more identification and familiarization with e-commerce law and information security. Methodology: There are no boundaries in e-commerce and there is no difference for people to buy their goods from the neighbor shop or from a shop in another continent. E-commerce increases speed and volume inn merchandise transactions and reduces buyers’ and producers’ costs tangibly, time saving, more attraction, removing brokers, and finally more benefits. However, the e-commerce has its problem and defect like any other issues. One of the biggest obstacles in e-commerce way is information security. Results: Encryptions used in information security to change information to codes that no one can use it except the permitted user even if others access to it. The encrypted information can change to the initial form by permitted user (by decryption process). Encryptions used to protect both electronic and non-electronic transmitted or stored information, encryption provides good facilities for information security such as improved methods of authentication, message compression, digital signatures, non-repudiation capabilities, and encrypted network communications. Conclusion: If encryption is not implemented correctly, it can cause security problems.

TL;DR: In the United States of America, there is no social class in a people's republic as mentioned in this paper, except in competitive sports such as tennis where competitors are individually “seeded” or some team games such as American soccer where teams are re-seeded following elimination competitions.
Abstract: There is little that is more enigmatic about society in the United States of America of the 21 st century than is the concept known as “social class.” 1 At once, there is no social class in a people’s republic 2 which is what the United States of America is supposed to be, whilst in a different sense, social class is everything in America today. 3 Unlike South Asia and especially India, Americans are not born into a family caste structure, such as Brahmin or Untouchable. Unlike the United Kingdom, America has no list of feudal titles or title holders such as published in Debrett’s Peerage 4 or Burke’s Peerage, 5 except in competitive sports such as tennis where competitors are individually “seeded” or some team sports such as American soccer where teams are “re-seeded” following elimination competitions. Some cities do publish an annual Society Visiting List in a blue silk cover, such as Baltimore’s famous volume known as the “Blue Book,” in which appear the names of “suitable” guests who may be invited to attend the year’s “Cotillion,” or bachelor ball for young women and their male escorts, all expected to be from elite and wealthy Bourgeois families, 6 although to be sure some young debutantes and their honoured male guests are none of the foregoing. The number of patrons who purchase Baltimore ’s “Blue Book,” most likely to savor their names being listed between its covers, has dwindled progressively from over 20,000 half a century ago in 1960 to under 2,000 in 2008 for the 120 th annual edition. 7

TL;DR: Ahmed et al. as discussed by the authors argued that despite the security operations in the tribal areas, the ability of Pakistan-based terrorist groups to plan and execute terror attacks has not been significantly damaged.
Abstract: In “Pakistan’s Counterterrorism Strategy: A Critical Overview”, Naeem Ahmed critically evaluates the counterterrorism strategy of Pakistan, which it adopted after the 9/11 attacks in order to combat terrorism, unleashed by Al-Qaeda and the homegrown terrorist network of militant jihadi and sectarian groups, following the Deobandi takfiri ideology. He argues that despite the security operations in the tribal areas, the ability of Pakistan-based terrorist groups to plan and execute terror attacks has not been significantly damaged. The terror network, its strength and its structure have so far remained intact. Moreover, security operations have not reduced the bigger threat, which is now emanating from the urban-based militant sectarian groups, comprising well-educated and ideologically motivated hardcore terrorists. The chapter suggests that the success of Pakistan’s counterterrorism strategy largely depends on implementing strong measures to neutralize violent extremist ideology. These measures include reforming madrasas that have become the nurseries of extremism and terrorism; establishing a punitive regime by improving the criminal justice system and further strengthening the anti-terrorism regime; launching counter-radicalization programmes to prevent the production of terrorists; introducing reforms in the public education sector to curb religious hatred and the enemy image of neighbouring countries; and redefining Pakistan’s India-centric national security paradigm, which seeks support from militant jihadist groups.

Abstract: This study examines the intersecting phenomena of violence against women and migration within the context of Shan migrants living and working in Chiang Mai, Thailand, while also analyzing best practices in addressing violence against women among the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that serve this migrant population. Through semi-structured personal interviews, participant observation, and a conceptual framework arguing the role of intersectional identities in instances of violence against women, the research shows how Shan migrant women primarily map violence taking place in the broader community under conditions that blame the victim. In contrast, NGO workers view the largest threats of violence inside intimate relationships due to unequal gender power-relations. Apparent discrepancies in definitions and locations of violence are strongly linked to long-established gender regimes that enshroud the identities of Shan migrant women, and affect NGOs’ abilities to serve this population. The researcher argues for an intersectional approach to addressing violence against migrant women and recommends more feminist-centered training for NGO workers.

TL;DR: In this article, a positive correlation between the experience of street harassment and fear of victimization was hypothesized and a strong positive correlation was also found between street harassment experience and negative reaction to harassment.
Abstract: The debate in acknowledging street harassment as an existing social problem renders research necessary on the topic. Street harassment is said to occur when it takes place in a public setting and is initiated by a stranger. Through this correlation research, we aimed to establish the relationship between experiencing street harassment and fear of victimization. A positive correlation between the experience of street harassment and fear of victimization was hypothesized and a positive correlation between street harassment and negative reaction to harassment was also hypothesized. Additionally, the most recurring type of public harassing behaviors was identified as well. Two self report questionnaires were administered; A gender based harassment scale assessing the frequency of 8 harassing behaviors which ranged on a likert scale from 0 (never) to 4 (almost always) and a modified version of The Fear of Crime survey measuring fear of victimization. These questionnaires were administered to a sample of 250 females recruited via convenient sampling technique that had experienced street harassment previously. Percentages, mode and Pearson’s Product correlation were used to statistically analyze data. Results showed a significant, weak positive correlation between street harassment and fear of victimization (r=.216, p<0.01) and a moderate positive correlation between experiencing street harassment and negative reaction towards harassment (r=.404, p<0.01). The most frequent harassing behavior was being stared in a manner that made the victims uncomfortable with 98% of participants experiencing it, followed by 83.5% of the participants experiencing non-verbal sounds. Through this research, we were able to conclude street harassment does have negative implications for women.
