Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, thermal analysis of a commercial Portland cement blended with calcium carbonate was studied by thermal analysis, and the results indicated that TG and DTG curves are faster and more precise tools than DTA curves to identify and quantify all the main hydrated and carbonated phases which are present in the pastes, especially in the case of this cement, the total content of which cannot be estimated correctly by DTA as hydration proceeds.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the role of extended crystallographic structures in controlling the course of the bond rearrangements that occur during the conversion of a solid reactant into solid products is discussed.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, Bone samples of different origins and two bone substituent materials were studied with modern solid-state chemical methods: combined thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis-mass spectrometry (TG-DTA-MS), X-ray powder diffraction (synchrotron), and infrared spectroscopy.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the kinetic results computed for a hypothetical simulated process and experimental data for the thermal decomposition of calcium carbonate and ammonium perchlorate. But the results show that model-fitting techniques are successful in correctly describing the decomposition when assuming multi-step kinetic models, and the results indicate that proper consideration of the experimental conditions at which the reaction has been investigated should be taken into account for a correct interpretation of kinetic data of solid-gas reactions.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to determine curing conditions for phthalonitrile functional polybenzoxazines and achieved high thermal stability with temperature at 5% weight loss up to 450°C for monofunctional benzoxazine-based polymers.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the relationship between the relative fraction of edge sites and the oxidation behavior of graphite was examined by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA).

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the Clausius-Clapeyron equation was used to estimate the net isosteric heat of persimmon skin and pulp in the range of 20-70°C, to water activities (a w ) from 0.02 to 0.85.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of drying and thermal treatment of collagen can be observed by X-ray diffraction, the changes in the diffraction pattern relate to changes in axial packing of collagen molecules as dehydration occurs, the meridional diffraction series becomes truncated indicating induced structural disorder, the spreading of diffraction features indicate that the molecular orientation is altered for some of the collagen chains or portions of collagen chains within fibril.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, an adiabatic testing procedure for determining the self-heating propensity of coal has been evaluated using New Zealand coals and the results showed that the repeatability of the selfheating rate (R-70), obtained by the method, is less than +/- 5% of the average value for tests performed consecutively over 3-4 days.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The authors showed that hot water washing of large (0.5-1mm) straw char particles is less effective for ash removal than straw washing, independently of the temperature and the atmosphere where chars were formed.
