Abstract: Women’s representation at higher levels of leadership is restricted predominantly in developing nations. The Untouched potential of women in the public sphere weakens the involvement they could make to effectual leadership at all levels. This study was carried out in Agricultural and Rural Development Bureau in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. The main purpose of this paper was to investigate the situation of women in leadership positions in Amhara National Regional State Agricultural and Rural Development Bureau. The research method was qualitative approach and case study research design was employed as a research design. Semi-structured interview, key informants interview and focus group discussions were used to gather relevant data from women workers and bureau managers regarding the participation, constraints and strategies of women in leadership positions. The primary findings of the study disclosed that the participation of women in leadership positions is extremely rare. Though women participation in leadership and decision making is missing, opportunities like education, training, workshops and conferences are available to play a role in the status, experience and skills of women. The finding of this study also explored the constraints of women in leadership positions, such as internal constraints and external constraints. Consequently, the study has stated the strategies that help to overcome the constraints including leadership training, reducing multiple roles of women, building the psychological makeup of women as they can be leader, fighting stereotypes and discriminatory practices through awareness creation and promote women rights. Hence, to enhance women’s participation in leadership positions it seems imperative that government and non government institutions should develop a solid package on leadership and carry out capacity buildings that could empower women. TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the general pattern of "Absuma" and understand its significance in terms of shaping the socio-cultural relational matrix among the Afar people of Ethiopia.
Abstract: The major objective of this study was to examine the general pattern of "Absuma" and understand its significance in terms of shaping the socio-cultural relational matrix among the Afar people of Ethiopia. The research was mainly qualitative in design and explanatory in analysis. To this effect, data were gathered from community elders, tribal leaders, and married members in order to learn about various phases of the Absuma and its related marriage rites and practices. The data gathered from the field were subjected to descriptive analysis. The finding of the study shows that as a cultural marriage system, "Absuma" is still in practice by the virtue of its relevance with the culture and religious tradition of the society. In the "Absuma" marriage system of Afar, "Festive meal" receives a primary consideration. This pre-wedding preparation has its own distinct features as organized by the families of the bride and the groom although the meal festivity prepared by the bride family is given much cultural emphasis. As various social activities in the Afar culture are conducted and performed in groups, pre-wedding tasks are accomplished by youth teams (Feima) who are responsible for making the wedding ceremony absorbing and engaging such as by performing a variety of cultural dances. They are expected to escort and help the couple enjoy themselves beginning a week ahead of the actual event. As women bear greater responsibility in the culture, they are bound to prepare the necessary food and beverages a month before the wedding date. Even after the wedding, the mother of the bride has a great social obligation to manage the home of the couple until they are capable of living by themselves independently. TL;DR: In this article, the authors used a binary logit model to assess household food security and identify factors affecting food security in two districts of North Gondar zone using household survey from 2016/17.
Abstract: Analysis of Household level Determinants of food security in rural Ethiopia: Evidence from Northern Gondar zone Food insecurity is a major challenge for Ethiopia and for many African countries. This paper assesses household food security and identifies factors affecting food security in two districts of North Gondar zone using household survey from 2016/17. A binary logit model has been used because the dependent variable is dichotomous. A clear understanding of the major causes of food insecurity helps policy makers and planners to formulate new policies that enhance food security. Therefore, this study was conducted to measure food security/insecurity status of households, to identify factors influencing farm household’s food security. In order to achieve these objectives biophysical, demographic and socio-economic data were collected from 200 randomly selected households in a two-step sampling procedure. The survey result shows that about 75% of sample farmers were food insecure. Moreover, based on survey data, the empirical results from logistic regression revealed that seven variables, namely age, family size, amount of cultivated land, livestock ownership, agro ecological zone, household head sex and household participation in any off/non-farm income are significant factors influencing the odds ratio of a household food security status. Thus, the finding implies that female-headed households need support in order to improve their food security. Furthermore, improving access to land and its utilization based on comparative advantage could improve household food security. Family planning can also be important to balance demand and supply of food in such areas. Key Words: Determinant, Food Security, Logistic Regression, HFBM

TL;DR: This study finds that India can leverage on the 7,500 long coast line and derive holistic development in terms of interconnected ports with hinterland connectivity and realize lower expenditure coupled with reduced carbon emission.
Abstract: Starting from the 3rd millennium BC, Indian maritime trade has augmented the life of a common man and businesses alike. This study, finds that India can leverage on the 7,500 long coast line and derive holistic development in terms of interconnected ports with hinterland connectivity and realize lower expenditure coupled with reduced carbon emission. This research analyzed a decade of cargo data from origination to destination and found that, around 82.95 per cent (953 MMTPA in 2017–18) of road based consignments in India comprised of Fertilizers, Hydrocarbons, Coal, Lubricants and Oil. Essentially, a quantum of this i.e., 78.39 per cent of MMTPA cargo consignments (State Owned Hydrocarbons) traverse on Indian roads. The study drew parameters of this transportation paradigm and modeled the same using Artificial Intelligence to depict a monumental opportunity to rationalize costs, improve efficiency and reduce carbon emission to strengthen the argument for the employment of Multimodal Logistics in the Maritime Sector. Subsequent to model derivation the same set of parameters are plotted as an efficient transit map of Interstate transit lines connecting 16 major hubs which now handle bulk cargo shipped by all modes of transport. For the pollution segment a collaborative game theoretic approach i.e., Shapley value is proposed for improved decision making. This study presents data driven and compelling research evidence to portray the benefits of collaboration between firms in terms of time and cost. The study also proposes the need and method to improve hinterland connectivity using a scalable greedy algorithm which is tested with real time data of Coal and Bulk Cargo. As a scientific value addition, this study presents a mathematical model that can be implemented across geographies seamlessly using Information Communication Technology.
