TL;DR: In this paper, rare earth aluminates (ReAlO3) produced via microwave assisted synthesis have good powder flowability and is an ideal material for thermal spray coating process.
Abstract: Rare-earth aluminate (ReAlO3, Re = La, Gd, Nd, Y) powders were successfully synthesized from a mixture of Re2O3 (Re = La, Gd, Nd, Y) and Al2O3 powders using microwave assisted synthesis which consists of two steps: microwave heat treatment and high-energy milling process. X-ray diffraction, laser particle size analyzer, nitrogen adsorption technique (BET) and scanning electron microscopy were employed to study the phase composition, particle size and distribution, specific surface area and powder morphology. The results suggest that microwave assisted method led to a very rapid synthesis of ReAlO3 compared to conventional solid-state reaction process. The crystals produced by microwave assisted synthesis have a perovskite structure and the particle size distribution ranges from 3.6-51.5 µm. The present work demonstrates that rare-earth aluminates (ReAlO3) produced via microwave assisted synthesis have good powder flowability and is an ideal material for thermal spray coating process.

TL;DR: In this article, a local mineral (silica sand) obtained from Hazara division, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan was fabricated into soda-lime silicate glass and Titanium dioxide (TiO2) concentration in the range of 1-3 wt% was added as a nucleating agent to investigate its effect on crystallization phase, density, hardness, thermal expansion coefficient (α), glass transition temperature (Tg), micro hardness and optical bandgap.
Abstract: In this study, local mineral (silica sand) obtained from Hazara division, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan was fabricated into soda-lime silicate glass. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) concentration in the range of 1-3 wt% was added as a nucleating agent to investigate its effect on crystallization phase, density, hardness, thermal expansion coefficient (α), glass transition temperature (Tg), micro hardness and optical bandgap of soda-lime silicate glass. XRD analysis revealed the formation of different crystalline phases such as cristobalite (SiO2), wollastonite (CaSiO2), and rutile (unrefined TiO2, often with iron, F3+) at different processing temperatures. The coefficient of thermal expansion and the optical gap energies varied from 72.5×10–7/K to 77×10–7/K and 3.71-3.93 eV with TiO2 concentration, respectively. The mechanical properties were also in good agreement with those of commercially used glass-ceramics.

TL;DR: In this paper, light-weight insulation materials were prepared with calcined flint clay as the main material and sawdust was infused by sols as a pore forming agent.
Abstract: In this study, light-weight insulation materials were prepared with calcined flint clay as the main material and sawdust was infused by sols as a pore forming agent. Micro-porosity and properties of the prepared insulation materials were investigated and were found to have better comprehensive properties. Apparent porosity, bulk density and cold crushing strength of the compositions containing 40 wt% calcined flint clay, fired at 1400°C for 3 h, were found to be 71%, 0.85 g.cm–3 and 2.65 MPa, respectively. Thermal conductivity of the material was 0.133 W.m–1.K –1 at 300°C. When sawdust was soaked by 0 wt% sol, microstructure of the materials showed irregular pores. When sawdust was infused with 7 wt% alumina sol, the micropores were wrapped with larger pore. Meanwhile, the original pore was refined, and cold crushing strength and thermal conductivity were also optimized. When the sawdust was soaked in alumina sol, the cold crushing strength increased to 3.3 MPa and the thermal conductivity decreas...

TL;DR: In this paper, a mixture of hydroxapatite (HAp) and tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) powders was used to synthesize Biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) ceramics, which were then pressed and sintered at 1200o and 1250oC.
Abstract: Biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) ceramics was synthetically prepared by ex-situ method using hydroxyapatite (HAp) and beta tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) powders. Both HAp and β-TCP were prepared by wet chemical co-precipitation and calcination method and were then mixed at two different weight ratios of 60:40 and 70:30. The mixed BCPs were then pressed and sintered at 1200o and 1250oC. Sintered pure HAp and β-TCP were also prepared for comparison purpose. Sintered products were then characterized for various properties. Higher density and strength values were found for the composition with higher HAp content and also the bioactivity on immersion in SBF (simulated body fluid) solution was found to be higher for HAp containing composition.

TL;DR: In this article, the ternary compounds of rare earth uranium oxides, RE6UO12 (RE = La, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd) were measured by inverse drop calorimetry in the temperature range 533-1738K.
Abstract: Enthalpy increments of the ternary compounds of rare earth uranium oxides, RE6UO12 (RE = La, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd) were measured by inverse drop calorimetry in the temperature range 533-1738K. These compounds (RE6UO12) were prepared by gel combustion synthesis and characterized by XRD. From the measured enthalpy increment values, thermodynamic functions, viz. heat capacity, entropy, Gibb's energy functions were computed. The trend in variation of heat capacity was in the order: Eu6UO12>Sm6UO12>Nd6UO12>La6UO12>Gd6UO12. This trend is explained based on (i) phonon (ii) dilatational and (iii) Schottky contributions to the heat capacity. The trend in variation of heat capacity of RE6UO12 is similar to that of RE2O3.
