TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyse the impact of green marketing strategies on consumer purchasing patterns in Mauritius and explore the possibility of introducing greener patterns of consumption into contemporary lifestyles in the current context where green products are increasingly available.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyse the impact of green marketing strategies on consumer purchasing patterns in Mauritius. The present research also explores the possibility of introducing greener patterns of consumption into contemporary lifestyles in the current context where green products are increasingly available.Design/methodology/approach – This paper reviews the theory of green marketing to identify how customers are persuaded to purchase greener products. It also reports the empirical results of a consumer survey on green marketing strategies by the questionnaire method. The survey questionnaires were administered to 150 respondents visiting various hypermarkets and supermarkets. The questionnaires were processed and analysed with the statistical programme SPSS, using descriptive, correlation and factor analysis.Findings – The findings provide some interesting clues regarding customers’ perceptions on environmental concerns and green products. Further findings suggest that most con...

TL;DR: In this article, the impact of family background, big five personality traits and self-efficacy on entrepreneurial intentions (EIs) of business students in private universities in Pakistan was investigated.
Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of family background, big five personality traits and self-efficacy on entrepreneurial intentions (EIs) of business students in private universities in Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected with the help of structured questionnaires, 500 questionnaires were distributed among the students and 306 useable questionnaires were received and analyzed. Structural equation modeling was used to investigate the relationship among the study variables. SmartPLS was utilized to run the analysis. Findings The findings revealed a strong relationship between the exogenous and endogenous variables. The variance accounted by the independent variables was 74.3 percent in the EIs of the students. Family background was found to have a positive impact on the EIs of students. The findings also showed a positive relationship between self-efficacy and EIs. Consciousness, extroversion and openness to experience are positively linked with EIs while neuroticism and agreeableness did not show any relationship. Originality/value The study’s findings attract the attention of the academicians to take note of the factors examined while training the students the art of entrepreneurship. This is because this study has revealed that if these factors are not present the intention of the students to start a business venture may prove to be weak. Entrepreneurial activities are one of the biggest ways to reduce unemployment, thus, it is suggested that academicians should develop psychological plans and training to motivate the students to convert their intentions into actions.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed a faith-based model (FBM) to complement the conventional poverty reduction models in several Muslim majority nations (MMNs), where unemployment, illiteracy, chronic diseases, food shortage, sectarian wars and wave of militancy are surging at alarming rates.
Abstract: Purpose – Poverty is a plague which has continental manifestation, but its impact is heavily felt in several Muslim majority nations (MMNs), where unemployment, illiteracy, chronic diseases, food shortage, sectarian wars and wave of militancy are surging at alarming rates. The purpose of this paper is to develop a faith-based model (FBM) to complement the conventional poverty reduction models. Experiences have shown that FBMs find more acceptability among Muslim nations because they have theoretical and theological underpinnings from the Qur’an and Hadith, as opposed to conventional models that are often viewed with suspicion, sequel to Islamic revivalism. Design/methodology/approach – This research adopts a qualitative research method relying on secondary data/information sourced from CIA Factbook, previous scholarly works, working papers, case studies and relevant internet resources. In line with methodological approach of qualitative research, the secondary data/information were subjected to content an...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined how the interaction effect of customer capital shapes the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and firm performance and found that a high customer capital strengthened the link between two dimensions of entrepreneurial orientation (innovativeness and risk taking) and weakens the link of another dimension of entrepreneurship orientation (proactiveness).
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this study is to advance research on entrepreneurial orientation (EO), resource-based view (RBV), customer (relational) capital, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by examining how the interaction effect of customer capital shapes the relationship between EO and firm performance. Design/methodology/approach – This research is considered as a correlational rather than a casual study with 150 questionnaire returned from manufacturing SMEs. This cross-sectional study tested all hypotheses that are related to the research questions and use statistical software SPSS 17 to analyze data. Findings – The study found that a high customer capital strengthens the link between two dimensions of EO (innovativeness and risk taking) and weakens the link between another dimension of EO (proactiveness) and firm performance. Research limitations/implications – First, future studies would benefit from an enhanced development in the measurement of EO dimensions, which relies on richer and more re...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a model that shows the effects of different internal and external factors on women entrepreneurs' performance, and examined the opportunity recognition as a mediator between influencing factors and performance of women entrepreneurs.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the entrepreneurship literature by identifying factors influencing women entrepreneurs’ performance (EP) and the corresponding challenges in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The study also examines the opportunity recognition (OR) as a mediator between influencing factors and performance of women entrepreneurs. Design/methodology/approach – The study proposes a model that shows the effects of different internal and external factors on women EP. Findings – The paper demonstrates several challenges that are encountered by women entrepreneurs such as lack of access to financial resources, difficulty in finding qualified labors, work-home conflict and low profit. The results suggest that the most influencing factor is industry (SMEs) characteristics followed by entrepreneurial goals and motivations (EGM), and legal factors. Additionally, OR is found to mediate EGM, and industry characteristics. Research limitations/implications – As the study is conducted in Bahrain, it may lack generalization. In future research, it is advisable to expand study factors, use interviews as a research tool and make comparison between women and men entrepreneurial performances. Practical implications – The paper can help increase women EP and enable them to make use of the business environment in a more efficient and effective way. Originality/value – Although several papers already exist that discuss issues on women entrepreneurs, there has been little research focussing on factors influencing and challenges facing women entrepreneurs, particularly in the Middle East. The study explores important issues and calls for more research in this domain.
