Clinical Comparison of Head and Facial Massage and Qiaogong Point Massage as Adjuvant Therapy of Hypertension

Abstract: Objective:To compare the clinical efficacy of head and facial massage to Qiaogong point massage in adjuvant treatment of hypertension.Methods:A total of 64 hypertension patients whose blood pressure had been managed by extended release nifedipine tablets in previous received the head and facial massage and Qiaogong point massage randomly.Clinical symptoms,blood pressure and heart rate before and after treatment were compared.Results:The head and facial massage group had better outcomes in dizziness,headache and irritability improvement(P0.05).On the first day after treatment,the blood pressure reduced more in the Qiaogong point massage group compared to the other group;the situation was turned over after 15 days treatment.No significant difference was found in the change of blood pressure between the 2 groups(P0.05).Conclusion:The Qiaogong point massotherapy has temporary antihypertensive effect,while the head and facial massage has better hypertension and symptom improvement after long time treatment.

Effect of Dongpingtang with TCM theory ‘Winter Disease Being Cured in Summer’ on Pulmonary Function and Life of Quality in Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in Stable Stage

Abstract: Objective:To investigate the influence of Dongpingtang with the method of winter disease being cured in summer' of TCM on pulmonary function and life of quality in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) in stable stage.Methods:A total of COPD 65 patients were randomized into western drug group(n=33) and Dongpingtang group(n=32).Both groups were treated with the same western drugs for COPD.The Dongpingtang group was taken additional Dongpingtang from the summer solstice to the autumnal equinox in a 2-year circle.Lung ventilation,residual volume and diffusion function before and after treatment were determined,quality of life was assessed,and scoring for symptoms and signs was evaluated.Results:The therapeutic efficiency of the Dongpingtang group was 93.75%,with a significant difference compared to 69.70% in the western drug group(P0.05).The lung ventilation,residual volume and diffusion function was greatly improved after the treatment of Dongpingtang(P0.05); in the western drug group,FVC and FEV1 was improved (P0.05),TLC and RV was increased (P0.01 and P0.05),but FEV1/FVC%,MMEF75/25,MVV,RV/TLC,TLCOSB,TLCO/VA showed no improvement(P0.05).After the Dongpingtang treatment,the mean score for quality of life,daily activities and social activities had been greatly improved in the patients; suppression and anxiety had been attenuated more compared to the western drug group (P0.01).Conclusion:Using Dongpingtang with the TCM method winter disease being cured in summer' can improve the symptom and signs of COPD,suspend the decline of pulmonary function,and significantly increase the quality of life.

Effects of Qibai Mixture on the Immune Function of Tuberculosis Patients Who Are Resisted to Multi-drugs

Abstract: Objective:To observe the therapeutic effect of Qibai mixture for the adjuvant therapy of tuberculosis patients who are with multi-drug resistance.Methods:A total of 80 tuberculosis patients were randomized into 2 groups,one with anti-tuberculosis drugs and Qibai mixture(46 patients) and the other with anti-tuberculosis drugs alone(34 patients) for 12 weeks.Changes in T-cell subsets were observed before and after the treatment in both groups.Results:After 8 weeks,the patients in the Qibai group had better clinical improvement and dramatically elevated serum CD3,CD4,and CD4/CD8 levels,compared to those in the other group(P0.05 or P0.01).Conclusion:Qibai mixture has a good therapeutic effect on the immune function of tuberculosis patients at the early stage of treatment.

Effect of Serum Containing Asarum Heterotropoids on Na~+ Transporter in Cardiac Myocyte in Rats

Curving Acupotomy for Trigger Finger

Abstract: Objective:To observe the therapeutic efficiency of acupotomy for trigger finger(TF).Methods:A total of 177 patients(199 fingers)with TF were randomized into 3 groups: curving acupotomy group(60 patients,68 fingers),straight acupotomy group(58,65),and local blocking group(59,66).Visual analog scale(VAS) scores were used to evaluate the symptoms.Results:The curative rate in the curving acupotomy group was 100%,significantly higher than that in the straight acupotomy group(72.4%)and in the local blocking group(69.5%),P0.01.The VAS scores right after opertion were not significantly different in the 3 groups(P0.05).The VAS score was markedly lower in the curving acupotomy group than that in the other 2 group in postoperative 3 months(P0.05).The signs were improved in all 3 groups right after operation and 3 months later as compared to those before treatment,better in the curving acupotomy group(P0.05).Conclusion:The curving acupotomy for TF is with minor injury and simple procedures.It may be used as the treatment of choice for stage Ⅱand Ⅲ TF.

Clinical Observation on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Treated with Integrated Medicine

Abstract: Objective:To observe the therapeutic effect of simple Chinese medicine and integrated Chinese and western medicine in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome.Methods:According to the different goals of treatment,we used the cycle therapy of Chinese medicine for patients without fertility requirement and Diane-35 combined Chinese patent medicine and ovulation induction therapy for those with fertility requirement.Results:Both groups had a good effect on improving menstrual cycle,menstrual volume and acne,better in the integrated group.The latter also had advantages in improving the level of sex hormones and pregnancy.Conclusion:According to the different goals of treatment,Chinese medicine or integrated Chinese and western medicine may effectively treat polycystic ovary syndrome.

Effect of Different Doses of Atorvastatin on Cytokines and Blood Pressure During Maintenance Hemodialysis in Patients with Chronic Renal Failure

Abstract: Objective:To investigate the effects of different doses of atorvastatin on serum levels of interlerkin-6(IL-6),hypersensitive C reactive protein(hs-CRP) and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule 1(sICAM-1) and blood pressure on chronic renal failure during maintenance hemodialysis(MHD).Methods:Sixty-five patients with chronic renal failure during MHD were randomly divided into 10 mg atorvastatin group(n=35) and 20 mg atovastatin group(n=30).Both were administered once daily for 12 weeks in addition to a routine therapy.Serum levels of IL-6,hs-CRP,sICAM-1,TG,TC,LDL-C,HB,BUN,CRE and blood pressure were measured before and in 1 and 3 months after treatment.ELISA method was used to measure IL-6 and sICAM-1 and Radioimmunoassay was used to measure hs-CRP.Results: The serum levels of IL-6,hs-CRP and sICAM-1 were significantly decreased in 1 and 3 months after treatment in both groups compare to those before treatment(P0.05),especially in the 20mg atorvastatin group(P0.01).The blood pressure was lowered without significant difference in 1 month(P0.05) but with statistical difference in 3 months in both groups compared to that before treatment(P0.05) and no difference was noted between the 2 groups.TC,TG and LDL-C was reduced in 1 and 3 months(P0.05) and more reduction of TC and LDL-C was found in the 20mg group in 3 months(P0.05).The serum levels of albumin and HB were significantly increased in both groups(P0.05).Conclusion:Atorvastatin intervention may improve the micro-inflammatory state and lipid metabolic disorder in patients during MHD.

Establishment of the Lumbar Intervertebral Disk Cataplasia Model of Rabbits by Percutaneous Puncturing the Anulus Fibrosus at Surface Allocation

Abstract: Objective:To establish the lumbar intervertebral disk cataplasia model of rabbits.Methods:Ten common New Zealand white rabbits(male,weighing about 2.0 kg,3 months old) were percutaneously punctured the annular fibrosus at surface allocation with 18 G needle to establish the stabbed model on the 5 to 6 lumbar disc and the location of the needle puncture was examined by X-ray.We put the rabbits to death and kept the location of the indwelling needle.Autopsy was performed to determine the path and location of the needle.Results:1).X-ray showed the needle puncture located within the intervertebral space.2).The needle successfully entered the intervertebral disc annulus fibrosus not into the spinal canal,without damaging the nerve root and piercing large retroperitoneal vascular to the abdomen.Conclusion:The experiment may provide a simple lumbar intervertevral disk cataplasia modeling methods that is with small damage,small chances of infection,high survival rate,and short operation time.

Effects of Cortex Eucommiae Extracts on Estradiol-inducecd Kidney-yang Deficiency Mice

Abstract: Objective:To observe the effects of extracts from Cortex Eucommiae on estradiol-induced kidney-yang deficiency in mice and to understand the modern scientific connotation of the properties theories about sweet-flavor,warm-nature,meridian tropism in liver and kidney. Methods:Kidney-yang deficiency mice model was established with intraperitoneal injection of estradiol benzoate. A total of 72 healthy adult male ICR mice were randomly divided into 6 groups:control group,model group,positive control group (Guifudihuang),and 3 groups of Cortex Eucommiae (water extract,n-butanol extract,and acetoacetate extract),12 mice in each group. The effects were observed by measuring physical sign,rectal temperature,grip strength,swimming time,locomotor activity,serum creatinine and urea levels,haematological indexed,testis index and seminal vesicle index. Results:The water extract markedly improved the rectal temperature,swimming time,locomotor activity,testis index,seminal vesicle index,Hb,WBC,LY,MO and PLT,and decreased urea. The n-butanol extract had the similar effects as the water one did except for increasing RBC instead of the rectal temperature. The acetoacetate extract dramatically improved the rectal temperature,grip strength,seminal vesicle index,Hb and PLT,and decreased urea and creatinine. Conclusion:These effects of Cortex Eucommiae could be as the basic of improving the symptoms of kidney-yang deficiency such as soreness of the waist and knees,hyposexuality,intolerance of cold and cold limbs,feeling listless and inert,edema,and blood deficiency that is induced by kidney-essence and liver-qi deficiency,and also could be an important part of the modern scientific connotation of the properties theories about sweet-flavor,warm-nature,meridian tropism in liver and kidney. The effects of the water and n-butanol extracts were similar to each other and both stronger compared to the acetoacetate one.
