Summary (1 min read)

1. Introduction

  • Cadmium(II) is known to form a wide variety of 1:1 to 1:4 complexes with thiones (L), with the structural arrangements generally based on tetrahedl and octahedral coordination environments.
  • (MeImt = N-methylimidazolidine-2-thione) usually exist in the polymeric form.

2. Experimental

  • 1. Materials M AN US CR IP T AC CE PT ED 4 Cadmium sulfate (CdSO4 .8/3H2O) and NaN3 were obtained from Merck Chemical Company, Germany.
  • Imidazolidine-2-thione was prepared according to the method reported in the literature [36].
  • As a result, a white crystalline product was obtained, that was washed with methanol and dried.
  • Crystal data and details of the data collection are summarized in Table 1.

3. Results and Discussion

  • 1. X-ray Structure Studies Selected bond angles and distances are given in Table 1.
  • The azide anion forms an end-to-end bridge between two cadmium ions resulting into a 2D network based on a 16-membered ring motif [CdN3]4 .

4. Conclusion

  • The X-ray structures of the complexes show that both of them exist in the form of two dimensional polymers with each cadmium atom being octahedrally coordinated.
  • The polymers are assembled through triplybridging sulfate and doubly-bridging, µ(1,3) azide ions in case of 1 and 2 respectively.

Abstract: A series of 1,3-disubstituted 4-benzylideneamino-5-thioxohexahydroimidazo[4,5-d]imidazol-2(1H)-ones (thioglycolurils) was synthesized via the reaction of 5,7-disubstituted 3-thioxoperhydroimidazo[4,5-e]-1,2,4-triazin-6-ones with hydroxy-, alkoxy-, and fluorocontaining benzaldehyde derivatives. An alkylation of the obtained thioglycolurils with methyl iodide or 4-bromobenzyl bromide provided the corresponding 6-benzylideneamino-5-alkylsulfanyl-3,3a,6,6a-tetrahydroimidazo[4,5-d]imidazol-2(1H)-ones. The fungicidal activity of some synthesized compounds against pathogens causing diseases of agricultural crops was studied.

Abstract: The title compound, {[Cd(NCS)2(CH4N2S)2]·2H2O}n, forms a one-dimensional chain parallel to the a axis, caused by the presence of the bridging thiocyanate groups. Two solvent molecules per complex are present in the lattice. The CdII ion is situated on an inversion centre and is coordinated in a distorted octahedral fashion by two N and two S atoms from four thiocyanate ligands and by two S atoms from two thiourea molecules. Weak O—H⋯S, N—H⋯O and N—H⋯N interactions reinforce the structure.

Abstract: Cadmium(II) complexes, catena-poly[bis(thiocyanato-κN)bis(N-methylthiourea)cadmium(II)], [Cd(Metu)2(NCS)2]n (1) and dicyanidobis(N-methylthiourea)cadmium(II), [Cd(Metu)2(CN)2] (2) were prepared and their structures were determined by single crystal X-ray analysis. In 1, the cadmium(II) ion is bound to four sulfur atoms of bridging Metu ligands and two nitrogen atoms of thiocyanate adopting a distorted octahedral environment. In 2, the geometry around cadmium is distorted tetrahedral attained by two cyanide ions and two methylthiourea molecules bound through the sulfur atoms. The crystal structures of both complexes show intra and intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions. The complexes were also characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy and the spectroscopic data were discussed in terms of the nature of bonding.

TL;DR: In this paper, a two-dimensional Patterson and Fourier synthesis was carried out with generalized projections of partial differences and back-shift corrections, and the structure has been solved by two dimensional Patterson-and Fourier syntheses.
Abstract: bis-Ethylenethiourea-cadmium thiocyanate crystallizes in the monoclinic system and is isostructural with the corresponding lead compound. The cell dimensions are: a=15.60±0.04, b=8.17±0-02, c=ll.51_0.01A; fl=95°41'; the number of formula units per unit cell is 4 and the space group is C~h-C 2/c. The structure has been solved by two-dimensional Patterson and Fourier syntheses, and refinement has been carried out with generalized projections of partial differences and back-shift corrections. The cadmium atom coordinates octahedrally with two sulphur atoms attached to ethylenethiourea molecules, and with two sulphur and two nitrogen atoms in four different NCS groups. The coordination polyhedra are therefore linked in chains by these NCS groups, which form bridges between cadmium atoms.
