16 Jun 2020-pp 37-42
TL;DR: In this article, the authors classified the research of NPD in SMEs into three major areas: success-failure factors, followed by NPD strategy, and staged process, and found that more emphasis should be put on topics about radical products, ideation and creativity, and new product development speed.
Abstract: New Product Development (NPD) is pivotal for company's business. Recent analysis on NPD research shows that national-specific scope of NPD studies is important. In the context of national economy, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) has important role, and thus this article tries to elaborate and classify the research of NPD in SMEs, as an effort to gain an insight of this topic. The findings from the study is that dominant research areas on SME's NPD are classified into three major areas: success-failure factors, followed by NPD strategy, and staged process. More emphasis should be put on topics about radical products, ideation and creativity, and the new product development speed.

TL;DR: The aim of this paper is to investigate the causal relationship between exports and imports of Romanian current account, according to the methodology of Engle and Granger, and to reveal some insights related to the formation of current account deficit.
Abstract: Public finance theory states that, related to the causality relationship between budgetary revenues and expenditures, it could be investigated if revenues adjust due to changes in expenditures, or otherwise, depending on the sense of the causality. This theory could, also, be applied to the components of current account in order to analyze the synchronization between inflows and outflows of international trade. In the case where the two time series are cointegrated, classical Granger causality test could reveal distorted results. Consequently, it can be used an adjusted Granger test based on cointegration equation between the two variables. The aim of this paper is to investigate the causal relationship between exports and imports of Romanian current account, according to the methodology of Engle and Granger. The results could reveal some insights related to the formation of current account deficit, based on the adjustments of inflows caused by changes in outflows, or, otherwise. Abstract. This paper is organised as follows: first, it is given a brief introduction of a simple model for European options price and next, the parallel algorithms applied to this model. Considering the idea given by odd%even cyclic reduc tion, we start from an explicit scheme obtained by means of finite differences, and give an alternative of evaluating the approximate values using an odd%even cyclic reduction which generates a logarit hmic time of execution. Also, it is solved numerically using a parallelised domain decomposition method. The spatial domain is splitted among several processors, with data communicated among the processors using MPI. Interface conditions between domains are calculated using finite differences. For smaller sized problems the communication time is much longer than the computation time.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the factors that influenced the role of Kuozui Motor in developing products and manufacturing for third countries and found that the major factor that leads to the acquisition of new roles related to new product development by this Taiwanese subsidiary of Toyota was capability building, particularly in manufacturing engineering.
Abstract: This study examines the factors that influenced the role of Kuozui Motor – Toyota's Taiwanese subsidiary — in developing products and manufacturing for third countries. Employing a case-based exploratory research approach, this study reveals how Kuozui was able to become a regional hub with deep involvement in new product development. The study finds that while this change was partially crisis-driven, the major factor that leads to the acquisition of new roles related to new product development by this Taiwanese subsidiary of Toyota was capability building, particularly in manufacturing engineering. The case of Kuozui suggests that at subsidiaries of Toyota in small to medium-sized markets, while maintaining high factory performance, moving upstream from manufacturing excellence to process design and process improvement excellence is a major step toward the assignment of new product development work for third-country markets.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the maturity profiles of the product development process in small and medium sized Brazilian companies in the agricultural machinery and implement industry sector located in the state of Sao Paulo.
Abstract: The product development process (PDP), if well-structured and managed, can become a business process that directly influences the companies' competitiveness increase. The PDP in Brazilian SMEs in the agricultural machinery and implement industry Sector (AMI) is little known since most publications on product development focuses on the reality of large and multinational companies, which have a quite different structure from SMEs. The purpose of this paper is to characterize and analyze the management maturity profiles of the product development process in small and medium sized Brazilian companies in the agricultural machinery and implement industry sector located in the state of Sao Paulo. Therefore, the addressed actions of PDP improvements in those companies can be undertaken. A survey research was conducted in 40 companies. An in loco interview was applied to the respective individual in-charge of PDP by means of a structured questionnaire. For the data analysis, descriptive statistics and the multivariate cluster analysis techniques were used. The findings indicated that the SMEs in AMIs of the state of Sao Paulo present a heterogeneous structure with respect to PDP management. Three groups of companies were identified in the sample with different maturity PDP profiles: Group I (20% of companies in the sample), Group II (50% of the sample), and Group III (30% of the sample). Differences in the management of PDP were observed, especially among companies of Group I (smallest level of PDP maturity) and Group III (highest level of PDP maturity). However, despite the differences in PDP management presented in the groups of companies, according to the literature on PDP management, all groups are in the basic (initial) maturity level of PDP. The identification of the maturity level, in which these companies are, can help the determination of activities that link the internal actions to improve the PDP of these companies and the proposal of specific public policies that encourage the improvement of product development for domestic companies in this industry sector. TL;DR: In this paper, the results of an empirical measurement and its multivariate correlation on twenty-one Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) of the plastic packaging sector were presented, based on which seven factors were found that allow the quantitative translation of a set of innovation capabilities related to design and product development management.
Abstract: Design management is an application of project management methods that has been studied for less than a decade, but which, from literature, appears to be a key factor to product performance especially in manufacturing companies. This work presents the results of an empirical measurement and its multivariate correlation on twenty-one Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) of the plastic packaging sector. Based on this analysis, seven factors were found that allow the quantitative translation of a set of innovation capabilities related to design and product development management

Abstract: This paper considers product development interaction and collaboration issues in the implementation of design for environment (DfE). The research used a multiple case study methodology to investigate collaboration and relationships within product development teams. Interviews within a multiple case study research were used to identify the links between poor adoption of DfE principles, communication, collaboration and knowledge management. The study was carried out across the product development teams of twenty British small and medium sized companies. The paper presents an overview of the preliminary findings drawn from an ongoing comparative analysis of these case studies to highlight the impacts of organisational factors on DfE implementation within product development teams. It is argued that further research should focus on how knowledge acquisition and transfer within small and medium enterprises can better support the necessary collaboration in DfE.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors conduct a meta-analysis of the new product performance literature and find that product advantage, market potential, meeting customer needs, predevelopment task proficiencies, and dedicated resources, on average, have the most significant impact on new product success.
Abstract: Product innovation is increasingly valued as a key component of the sustainable success of a business’s operations. As a result, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of studies directed at explicating the drivers of new product success. To help managers and researchers synthesize this growing body of evidence, the authors conduct a meta-analysis of the new product performance literature. Of the 24 predictors of new product performance investigated, product advantage, market potential, meeting customer needs, predevelopment task proficiencies, and dedicated resources, on average, have the most significant impact on new product performance. The authors also find that the predictor–performance relationships can vary by measurement factor (e.g., the use of multi-item scales, subjective versus objective measures of performance, senior versus project management reporting, time elapsed since product introduction) or contextual factor (e.g., services versus goods, Asian versus North America...
