A cross platform mobile expert system for agriculture task scheduling

Abstract: In this paper, we explain a cross platform mobile expert system for agriculture task scheduling, which will be developed to help Indian farmers. In spite of so many reforms and initiatives introduced by the government of India in the past decades, the quality of information provided to the marginalized farmer is uneven. Dangerous issues that infect Indian farming at hand are the data shortage and high risk because of the volatile nature of the factors involved, like, natural weather change. This paper introduces an advisory, information and financial system available on mobiles, which is designed for farmers to help them stay on track, avoid troubles, and receive all the latest and updated information, government schemes and strategies related to the field of agriculture. Information System has tools forecasting schedule that creates a systematic schedule for farmers for crop cultivation based on the weather predictions. This proposed idea is to ensure that the farmer plan their resources properly and also suggest a sequence of tactical decisions throughout a production cycle. The advisory system will enable its users to receive real-time and interactive advices and alerts on crop. Alerts would include phase of the plantation, weather conditions, diseases and nutrition. Farmers will also receive regular weather bulletins to support on-farm decision-making. Finance related tools, helps the farmer to keep track and control his financial income and expenses. It helps the farmer to get better control of his financial condition, productivity. In turn it will help him to increase profitability and fulfill their long-term goals. This paper is a start of a complete solution for addressing Indian farmer's needs, which would help them grow systematically.

Abstract: The goal of organic agriculture is to show the interrelationship between farm biota, its production, and the overall environment. In cooperation with various Organic Farming unions, a system called the organic farming mobile agricultural extension services (OrgFarMob) was developed to provide farmers with instant information to problems with organic crop cultivation. Hence, this project provides organic farmers with crop lifecycle support system, leading to effective management and sustainable economic development in organic agriculture. The system powered by Azure cloud platform, was developed using Model-View-Architecture and programmed with AngularJS and Ionic. The design followed the computer research framework with incorporate users’ requirement elucidation and validation. The system was designed and evaluated using data obtained through the collection of materials from professionals in the field of organic agriculture. The results showed that the system can be used in real-time and foster organic agriculture cultivation.

Abstract: In this paper, we explain a personalized agricultural advisory system called eSagu, which has been developed to improve the performance and utilization of agriculture technology and help Indian farmers. In eSagu, rather than visiting the crop in person, the agricultural expert delivers the expert advice at regular intervals (once in one or two weeks) to each farm by getting the crop status in the form of digital photographs and other information. During 2004-06, through eSagu, agricultural expert advices delivered for about 6000 farms covering six crops. The results show that the expert advices helped the farmers to achieve savings in capital investment and improved the crop yield. Mainly, the data warehouse of farm histories has been developed which is providing the crop related information to the agricultural expert in an integrated manner for generating a quality agricultural expert advice. In this paper, after explaining eSagu and its advantages, we discuss how data warehouse of farm histories is enabling agricultural expert to deliver a quality expert advice. We also discuss some research issues to improve the performance of eSagu.

Abstract: There are several organizations extensively using modern information technology in India to facilitate better communication between researchers, extension workers and their farmer clients to transfer technologies and information more cost effectively. But, many of these initiatives are focused on delivering generic information rather than providing the farm plot or crop specific advisories pertaining to the requirements of individual farmers. This paper through a well structured pre-tested questionnaire administered to participating farmers tried to find answers to the use of mobile multimedia agricultural advisory system (MAAS). The answers to the research questions had potential implications for refining the approach of making efficient agricultural extension services available through a call centre platform, equipped with mobile multimedia agricultural advisory system, to the rural farming communities. This study has shown that a majority of the farmers perceived information on pest and disease control as most important and they also felt that accessing information through mobile phone is easy and convenient. Although there were perceived benefits by farmers, the quality of information, timeliness of information and reliability of information were the three important aspects that have to be considered seriously to meet their requirements and prospects in the coming years. Correlation analysis proved that irrespective of the socio-economic characteristics, farmers were utilizing the mobile multimedia agricultural advisory system.
