It should be noted that the top arm of the figure can be removed when αg = 0, which reduces the channel into a constrained 2-D channel with the list of forbidden configurations XBPi,j . However, in our channel removing the harmful patterns does not make the channel noiseless. Removing all the harmful patterns in the set XBPi,j before transmission through the channel, makes it a BSC with the cross-over probability αg .
