TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyze the interactions in sign language (SL) among deaf elementary school students in Portuguese language classes and was inspired by the work of Donato (1994), who sought to identify scaffolding practices in interactions among peers in French as a second language classes.
Abstract: This paper analyzes the interactions in sign language (SL) among deaf elementary school students in Portuguese language classes and was inspired by the work of Donato (1994), who sought to identify scaffolding practices in interactions among peers in French as a second language classes. Applying the social interactionist approach (Vygotsky, 1988; Wood, Brunner and Ross, 1976), the present research analyzed the interactions between deaf students during the development of a teaching unit that encouraged them to write a letter of complaint, in Portuguese, about their school. It is possible to perceive how the scaffolding strategies made the construction of collective learning to perform the proposed task possible.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the social construction of professional knowledge among secondary school Physics teachers in a discussion forum in the context of an on-line course offered via the InterAge ® constructivist virtual environment.
Abstract: This study investigates social construction of professional knowledge among secondary school Physics teachers in a discussion forum in the context of an on-line course offered via the InterAge ® constructivist virtual environment. The participants were asked to propose solutions to a problem related to the teaching of Heat and Temperature based on on-line discussion and the reading of research papers. An analysis of the discourse, based on Bakhtin's criteria for characterizing utterances, identified the movements of appropriation of meaning of the proposed solutions and of the readings. The analysis of the argumentative strategies involved the identification of the arguments according to Perelman and Olbrechts- Tyteca's theory and the comprehension of their roles in the discussion. An intense dynamic of appropriation of the problem and of collaborative construction of solution proposals was observed. The teachers' appropriation of ideas from the research papers was expressed through hybrid utterances mediated by their practice or expressed a radical change. Argumentative analysis helped to identify the use of real cases and of ideas extracted from the papers, generating arguments of illustration and of authority. Therefore, the argumentative strategies were used by them to reinforce the collective construction of knowledge more than to increase the adhesion of participants. Implications of using discourse and argumentative analysis are proposed aiming to improve the implementation of CSCL in the context of in-service teachers' training courses.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the challenges perceived by deaf students in the teaching of introductory accounting in accounting and administration courses and propose a qualitative research, which used semi-structured interviews with the data examined by the technique of content analysis.
Abstract: This study aims to investigate the challenges perceived by deaf students in the teaching of Introductory Accounting in Accounting and Administration courses. This is a qualitative research, which used semi-structured interviews with the data examined by the technique of content analysis. It was carried out between March / 2017 and March / 2018, having deaf students as subjects. It is based on the historical-cultural theory, in the assumptions of Vigotsky (1989, 1991 and 1997). Examples of the identified challenges are: [1] the language barrier; [2] the lack of knowledge and sensitivity regarding deafness; [3] resistance to possible adaptations of teaching strategies, materials and resource utilization that facilitate learning for deaf students; [4] lack of signals to represent technical terms. As a contribution brings suggestions for an improvement in accounting education in this perspective of the inclusion of deaf people in regular education.

TL;DR: In this paper, a questionnaire was applied to four groups (Christians, Adventists, Spiritualists and academic students without considering the religious tendency), a total of 100 persons, and the questions are concerning human sexuality themes; it was asked the personal positioning and subject's religion positioning.
Abstract: Considering the complexity of mental and psychic functioning, this article discusses the relations between beliefs and human thinking. It assumes that processes of human thinking involve not only cognition but also suffers the influence of other aspects such as affective or cultural (beliefs). The article presents the results of a research that studied the possible influences of beliefs in human thinking. A questionnaire was applied to four groups (Catholics, Adventists, Spiritualists and academic students without considering the religious tendency), a total of 100 persons. The questions are concerning human sexuality themes; it was asked the personal positioning and subject’s religion positioning. Results indicated the influence of beliefs and, simultaneously, the influence of other factors in human thinking, that indicate the complexity of mental functioning and of relations between culture and subject. © Ciencias & Cognicao 2007; Vol. 12: 134-149.
