TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate how students in the 4th grade of elementary school improve their written language and conclude that cases for referral to psychological services are expected in the procurement process of writing and occurrences are adequately explained in academic studies.
Abstract: This study aimed to investigate how students in the 4th grade of elementary school improve written language. The intervention performed was based on the practice of writing as a structural axis of the Portuguese language teaching situations to amplify the literacy beyond regard to early literacy. The corpus analyzed consists of textual productions of three students in a public school in the state of Sao Paulo, held on different dates of the school year of 2013, enabling a comparative analysis of the progress of these budding writers discussed in the light of the foundations of Vygotsky and other researchers listed in the bibliography on the teaching of language. We conclude that cases for referral to psychological services, by deviating from a normal pattern of misguided learning, are expected in the procurement process of writing and occurrences are adequately explained in academic studies. http://dx.doi.org/10.14572/nuances.v25i1.2667

Data were organized into thematic cat - egories, according to the guidelines of the analysis of content. The results indicate that children have the following social representations of school: ability to learn to read and write, prepare for the labor market and, consequently, social ascension. The proposal Moscovician is therefore strengthened by the fact that for this group the school has a mesh of senses and meanings, engendered in their social environment, which works as a guide to action.

TL;DR: In this paper, two English textbooks, High Up (2013) and Freeway (2010), were analyzed and compared taking into consideration the conceptions of language, text genres, teaching sequence, and writing as a process in English as an additional language.
Abstract: This paper aims at identifying in two English textbooks, High Up (2013) and Freeway (2010), suggested by the Programa Nacional do Livro Didatico (PNLD), which activities have greater potential to promote writing abilities for communication. To achieve such objective, both books were analyzed and compared taking into consideration the conceptions of language, text genres, teaching sequence, and writing as a process in English as an additional language. The conclusion of this examination shows that there is a distance between the textbooks authors’ intention of dealing with written language, in an interactionist perspective, and the teaching material. Throughout the article, some suggestions were put forward in order to improve the sequences by adjusting them to the theoretical views of the books. The findings reveal that one of the books explored activities that consider aspects of genre, audience, text purpose, and writing as a process.
