The nonlinear development of Gortler vortices in growing boundary layers

TL;DR: The growth of Gortler vortices in boundary layers on concave walls is investigated in this paper, and it is shown that the concept of a unique neutral curve so familiar in hydrodynamic-stability theory is not tenable in the gortler problem except for asymptotically small wavelengths.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analysis of a Taylor–Poiseuille vortex flow reactor—I: Flow patterns and mass transfer characteristics

TL;DR: In this paper, the results of flow visualization and residence time distribution experiments in a Taylor-Poiseuille vortex flow apparatus are presented, showing that the vortex drift velocities are less than one, and decrease continuously with increasing rotations, until a full stop.
Journal ArticleDOI

Performance of a continuous Taylor-Couette-Poiseuille vortex flow enzymic reactor with suspended particles.

TL;DR: In this article, the performance of an enzymic VFR was evaluated with fructose-glucose isomerization, catalyzed by immobilized glucoisomerase, taking advantage of the negligible changes that it causes on the medium viscosity.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of viscous heating on the stability of Taylor–Couette flow

TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of viscous heating on the stability of the Taylor-Couette flow is investigated theoretically, based on a linear stability analysis, and it is shown that the most dangerous disturbances are axisymmetric and that the temporal characteristic of the secondary flow is very sensitive to thermal boundary conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Maurice Couette, one of the founders of rheology

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a biography of Maurice Couette, whose name is associated with a type of flow, of viscometer, and with a correction method for end effects in capillary flows.

Linear and Nonlinear Waves

G. B. Whitham
TL;DR: In this paper, a general overview of the nonlinear theory of water wave dynamics is presented, including the Wave Equation, the Wave Hierarchies, and the Variational Method of Wave Dispersion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Determining Lyapunov exponents from a time series

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present the first algorithms that allow the estimation of non-negative Lyapunov exponents from an experimental time series, which provide a qualitative and quantitative characterization of dynamical behavior.
Journal ArticleDOI

Linear and Nonlinear Waves

TL;DR: In this paper, a reference record was created on 2005-11-18, modified on 2016-08-08 and used for the purpose of ondes ; chocs ; onde de : choc reference record.
Journal ArticleDOI

The motion of ellipsoidal particles immersed in a viscous fluid

TL;DR: In this article, the authors considered the case of particles of ellipsoidal shape, and showed that the condition for the validity of this approximation is that the product of the velocity of the ellipssoid by its linear dimensions shall be small compared with the "kinematic coefficient, of viscosity" of the fluid.

Singularities and groups in bifurcation theory

TL;DR: Singularities and groups in bifurcation theory as mentioned in this paper have been used to solve the problem of finding a group of singularities in a set of problems with multiple solutions.
