A Low-power Transmission Approach of Wifi Network in Smartphone

Abstract
The quality of WiFi's RSSI have greatly affected the power consumption of mobile phone. We analyze the impact of WiFi's RSSI on the power consumption of smartphone under the different network environment. It can be concluded, weak or bad signal strength makes link speed decreases, so the power consumption will be increased. Corresponding, good signal strength will makes WiFi energy consumption decreased. Taking this basic concept, we present an energy optimization strategy based on RSSI perception, which makes network packet aggregate and delay transmission for different intervals. On the other hands, It will reduce the transition of WiFi's mode when RSSI is weak or bad. Simulation results show that the proposed strategy have effectively reduced power consumption of the WiFi component.
