Multiphase microfluidics: from flow characteristics to chemical and materials synthesis

TL;DR: Transport characteristics of pressure-driven, multiphase flows through microchannel networks tens of nanometres to several hundred of micrometres wide are reviewed with emphasis on conditions resulting in enhanced mixing and reduced axial dispersion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Condensation in Smooth Horizontal Tubes

TL;DR: In this article, an experimental study of heat transfer and flow regimes during condensation of refrigerants in horizontal tubes was conducted, where measurements were made in smooth, round tubes with diameters ranging from 3.14 mm to 7.04 mm.
Journal ArticleDOI

An experimental investigation of the motion of long bubbles in inclined tubes

TL;DR: In this paper, the relative motion of single long air bubbles suspended in a constant liquid flow in inclined tubes has been studied experimentally, and a correlation of bubble and average liquid velocities, based on a least squares fit to the data is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of two-phase flow patterns in small diameter round and rectangular tubes

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of tube diameter and shape on flow regime transitions for two-phase flow in tubes with small hydraulic diameters was investigated by high speed video analysis to develop flow regime maps and the transitions between these flow regimes.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of channel diameter on adiabatic two-phase flow characteristics in microchannels ☆

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of channel diameter on two-phase flow was investigated to identify the phenomena which distinguish microchannels from minichannels, and a new slug flow model was also proposed to gain physical insight into the observed flow characteristics in micro-channels.
