TLDR
In this article, a type of surface wave with no counterpart in a purely elastic homogeneous material is shown to exist in a piezoelectric material and expressions for the velocity of propagation of this wave are obtained for various electrical boundary conditions on the free surface of a half-space.

Analysis of Generation and Detection of Surface and Bulk Acoustic Waves by Interdigital Transducers

TL;DR: In this article, a method of analysis which uses a combination of analytical and numerical techniques has been developed to obtain an accurate solution to the coupled electromagnetic and acoustic fields set up by an interdigital transducer on the surface of a piezoelectric substrate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Surface elastic waves

TL;DR: In this article, the propagation of various elastic waves at the surfaces of solids is considered, followed by descriptions of the many ways which have been demonstrated for transduction between surface elastic waves and electromagnetic waves.

Propagation and Amplification of Rayleigh Waves and Piezoelectric Leaky Surface Waves in LiNbO3

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the elastic surface wave propagation in LiNbO3 and found that the effective electromechanical coupling coefficient of the leaky surface wave propagating along the X axis of a 64° rotated Ycut plane is very large, K2 = 0.113, and the attenuation of this wave, caused by radiation of the energy into the solid, is 0.036 dB/wavelength for a free surface and goes to zero for a metalized surface.
Journal ArticleDOI

Coupling-of-modes analysis of saw devices

TL;DR: The coupling-of-modes approach for modeling and analyzing surface-acoustic wave devices is reviewed in this paper, and the design of various SAW devices such as resonators and resonator filters as well as practical aspects are discussed.

Analysis of the Excitation and Detection of Piezoelectric Surface Waves in Quartz by Means of Surface Electrodes

TL;DR: In this paper, the power extracted from a piezoelectric surface wave in quartz by an arrangement of electrodes on the surface is determined by a perturbation technique, which is extremely accurate for low coupling materials.

Elastic Surface Waves on Free Surface and Metallized Surface of CdS, ZnO, and PZT‐4

TL;DR: In this paper, velocities, particle displacement, and piezoelectric field associated with surface elastic waves in CdS, ZnO, and lead-titanate zirconate (PZT•4) have been computed for two cases, with and without metallic coating on the surface.
