Journal ArticleDOI

Selected topics in biomedical polyurethanes. A review

TL;DR: The literature on biomedical polyurethanes is reviewed in this article, with a focus on chemistry, structure-property relations, tissue-material interactions, surface properties, applications, processing, and sterilization.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biocompatibility of biomaterials: hemocompatibility, immunocompatiblity and biocompatibility of solid polymeric materials and soluble targetable polymeric carriers

TL;DR: The biocompatibility and immunocompatible of polymeric materials is of fundamental importance for their possible therapeutic uses and depends both on the physico-chemical characteristics of the medical material and on the hereditary and acquired ability of the recipient to react.
Journal ArticleDOI

Designing polymeric microparticles for biomedical and industrial applications

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an overview of recent and current studies carried out at the Particles, Polymers and Biomaterials Technology Group of the University of Coimbra which aims to design and prepare polymeric microparticles.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Epidemiology of Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma in Australia and New Zealand Confirms the Highest Risk for Grade 4 Surface Breast Implants.

TL;DR: The implant-specific risk for breast implant–associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma in Australia and New Zealand has now changed to reflect a strong link to implant surface area/roughness as a major association with this cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of the capsular response to the Biocell RTV and Mentor 1600 Siltex breast implant surface texturing: a scanning electron microscopic study.

TL;DR: The results showed that only the Biocell's capsules present a mirror image with correspondence of the depressions on the prosthesis and contacts on the capsule, and this phenomenon seems linked to the existence of a critical size of the pores constituting the implant surface.
