TLDR
In this paper, an efficient regioselective synthesis for the preparation of 5-(diphenylmethylene)-1H-pyrrol-2(5H)-ones by sequential dibromination and selective organometallic bromine/lithium exchange followed by reaction with benzophenone was developed.About:

Organic semiconductor photocatalyst can bifunctionalize arenes and heteroarenes
Indrajit Ghosh,Indrajit Ghosh,Jagadish Khamrai,Aleksandr Savateev,Nikita S. Shlapakov,Markus Antonietti,Burkhard König +6 more
TL;DR: A stable organic semiconductor material, mesoporous graphitic carbon nitride (mpg-CN), can act as a visible-light photoredox catalyst to orchestrate oxidative and reductive interfacial electron transfers to two different substrates in a two- or three-component system for direct twofold carbon–hydrogen functionalization of arenes and heteroarenes.

Access to Fluorazones by Intramolecular Dehydrative Cyclization of Aromatic Tertiary Amides: A Synthetic and Mechanistic Study.
TL;DR: The findings that Tf2O-mediated amide activation is obstructed by the easy protonation of amides by the formed triflic acid during the activation step are reported.

Reductive coupling of aliphatic cyclic imides and ω-amidoesters with benzophenones by low-valent titanium: Synthesis of 5-diarylmethylene-1,5-dihydropyrrol-2-ones, 6-diarylmethyl-2-pyridones, and ω-(diarylmethylene)lactams
TL;DR: In this paper, the reductive coupling of cyclic imides and ω-amidoesters with benzophenones by Zn-TiCl4 in THF and subsequent acid-catalyzed dehydration gave 5-diarylmethylene-1,5-dihydropyrrol-2-ones A, 6-diagramlmethyl-2pyridones B, and φ-labeled lactams C. In a similar manner, 3-((benzyloxy)carbonyl)amino substituted A,

Density‐functional thermochemistry. III. The role of exact exchange
TL;DR: In this article, a semi-empirical exchange correlation functional with local spin density, gradient, and exact exchange terms was proposed. But this functional performed significantly better than previous functionals with gradient corrections only, and fits experimental atomization energies with an impressively small average absolute deviation of 2.4 kcal/mol.

TL;DR: The use of absolute magnetic shieldings, computed at ring centers with available quantum mechanics programs, are proposed as a new aromaticity/antiaromaticity criterion to establish NICS as an effective aromaticity criterion.

Enhanced electrical conductivity of polypyrrole prepared by chemical oxidative polymerization: effect of the preparation technique and polymer additive
Han Chang Kang,Kurt E. Geckeler +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the electrical conductivity of chemically prepared polypyrrole in aqueous solution was found to be strongly dependent on the preparation technique and polymer additive, and significant enhancement of the conductivity up to 90 S cm −1 by using poly(ethylene glycol) as an additive during the polymerization could be achieved.
