Abstract:
The recent advances in chip-size microscopy based on optical scanning with spatially resolved nano-illumination light sources are presented. This new straightforward technique takes advantage of the currently achieved miniaturization of LEDs in fully addressable arrays. These nano-LEDs are used to scan the sample with a resolution comparable to the LED sizes, giving rise to chip-sized scanning optical microscopes without mechanical parts or optical accessories. The operation principle and the potential of this new kind of microscope are analyzed through three different implementations of decreasing LED dimensions from 20 µm down to 200 nm.read more

Individually Switchable InGaN/GaN Nano-LED Arrays as Highly Resolved Illumination Engines
Katarzyna Kluczyk-Korch,Sergio Moreno,J. Canals,Angel Dieguez,Jan Gülink,Jana Hartmann,Andreas Waag,Aldo Di Carlo,Matthias Auf der Maur +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, two different approaches to achieve individually switchable nano-LED arrays were evaluated in terms of near field spot size and optical crosstalk between neighboring pixels by using finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulations.

High-resolution quantitative phase-contrast microscopy by digital holography
TL;DR: Techniques of digital holography are improved in order to obtain high-resolution, high-fidelity images of quantitative phase-contrast microscopy, and the angular spectrum method of calculating holographic optical field is seen to have significant advantages including tight control of spurious noise components.

Lensfree on-chip microscopy over a wide field-of-view using pixel super-resolution
TL;DR: A sub-pixel shifting based super-resolution algorithm is implemented to effectively recover much higher resolution digital holograms of the objects, permitting sub-micron spatial resolution to be achieved across the entire sensor chip active area.

Digital holographic microscope for measuring three-dimensional particle distributions and motions
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that digital holographic microscopy can resolve the locations of several thousand particles and can measure their motions and trajectories using cinematographic holography, and a sample trajectory and detailed morphological information of a free-swimming copepod nauplius are presented.

TL;DR: Intrinsic optical constants of plastic materials-refractive index for bulk materials-determined by spectroscopic ellipsometry and transmission spectroscopy in the visible range are presented and overall, the longer wavelength laser excitation sources yielded less autofluorescence.

High-Resolution Image Reconstruction from a Sequence of Rotated and Translated Frames and its Application to an Infrared Imaging System
TL;DR: A technique for estimating a high resolution image, with reduced aliasing, from a sequence of undersampled rotated and translationally shifted frames and shows that with the proper choice of a tuning parameter, the algorithm exhibits robustness in the presence of noise.
