Review on research achievements of biogas from anaerobic digestion

TL;DR: A comprehensive review of research achievements on anaerobic digestion developments for biogas production is presented in this article, which includes a discussion of factors affecting efficiency (temperature, pH, C/N ratio, OLR and retention time).

Mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions in livestock production - A review of technical options for non-CO2 emissions

TL;DR: In this article, the potential of nutritional, manure and animal husbandry practices for mitigating methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from livestock production was evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Household Biogas Digesters—A Review

TL;DR: A summary of different aspects of the design and operation of small-scale, household, biogas digesters can be found in this article, where different digester designs and materials used for construction, important operating parameters such as pH, temperature, substrate, and loading rate, applications of the biogAS, the government policies concerning the use of household digesters, and the social and environmental effects of the digesters.

Energy, economic and environmental (3E) analysis of waste-to-energy (WTE) strategies for municipal solid waste (MSW) management in Malaysia

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the energy, economic and environmental impact of waste-to-energy (WTE) for municipal solid waste management in Malaysia and selected an existing landfill in Malaysia as the case study for consideration to adopt the advanced WTE technologies including the landfill gas recovery system (LFGRS), incineration, anaerobic digestion (AD), and gasification.

Quantifying the rural residential energy transition in China from 1992 to 2012 through a representative national survey

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present first-hand nationwide data from a 34,489 household energy-mix survey and a 1,670 household fuel-weighing campaign, showing that the consumption of wood and crop residues in rural China decreased by 63% and 51%, respectively, from 1992 to 2012, and these decreases were much greater than the 15% and 8% reported by the International Energy Agency and Food and Agriculture Organization.

Journal ArticleDOI

Optimisation of the anaerobic digestion of agricultural resources.

TL;DR: Current optimisation techniques associated with anaerobic digestion are reviewed and possible areas where improvements could be made are suggested, including the basic design considerations of a single or multi-stage reactor configuration, the type, power and duration of the mixing regime and the retention of active microbial biomass within the reactor.
Journal ArticleDOI

The household energy transition in India and China

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared the household energy transitions in India and China through the analysis of both aggregate statistics and nationally representative household surveys and found that Indians derive a slightly larger fraction of their total household energy needs from liquid and grid sources of energy than Chinese with comparable incomes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Migration and rural poverty in China

TL;DR: This article analyzed two complementary household datasets from China's poor areas to examine whether the poor migrate and whether migration helps the poor, and they found an inverted-U-shaped relationship between household endowments and the likelihood of migration.
