TL;DR: The principles of system protection and proper selection, application, and coordination of components that may be required to protect industrial and commercial power systems against abnormalities that could reasonably be expected to occur in the course of system operation are presented in this article.
Abstract: The principles of system protection and the proper selection, application, and coordination of components that may be required to protect industrial and commercial power systems against abnormalities that could reasonably be expected to occur in the course of system operation are presented in a in a simple, yet comprehensive, format. The principles presented apply to both new electrical system design and to the changing, upgrading, or expansion of an existing electrical distribution system.

TL;DR: In this article, the potential of using discrete wavelet transform in protecting relay is examined and model of relay using transient phenomena to fault line selection in distribution system is proposed and next integrated into ATP simulation program.
Abstract: The paper presents novel approach in distribution protection technic of fault line selection based on analysis of generated transient. Advantages of discrete wavelet transform for signal analysis are discused. The potential of using discrete wavelet transform in protective relay is examined and model of relay using transient phenomena to fault line selection in distribution system is proposed and next integrated into ATP simulation program. Detailed model of distribution system was made in ATPDraw with connected relay through CT model for consideration of possible saturation effect. Simulations were performed for algorithm evaluation with included detailed model of arc fault or high impedance ground fault and results show excellent discrimination function under various operating conditions. TL;DR: An interactive software is presented for evaluating algorithms for digital relay designs that includes signal processing and protection modules that are used in digital relays.
Abstract: An interactive software is presented for evaluating algorithms for digital relay designs. The software includes signal processing and protection modules that are used in digital relays. The software also includes facilities for generating data for testing the performance of digital relay designs. The performance of the designs can also be studied by using data recorded at a power system bus or generated by another software. The results can be displayed in the form of graphs for visual inspection. The software is interactive and can be used with ease. >

TL;DR: In this article, the potential of using discreet wavelet transforms in protection relay is examined and model of relay using transient phenomenon to fault in the winding in alternator stator is proposed and next integrated into ATP integration program.
Abstract: This paper presents the novel approach in protection and detection techniques of Alternator stator winding from the earth faults which are simulated between 2% to 10% distance point from the alternator neutral, since the impedence at that distance is very high we can not detect or protect by normal methods. The transient produced is analyzed in discreet Wavelet transforms. The potential of using discreet wavelet transforms in protection relay is examined and model of relay using transient phenomenon to fault in the winding in alternator stator is proposed and next integrated into ATP integration program.
