TLDR
Global grey matter volume decreased linearly with age, with a significantly steeper decline in males, and local areas of accelerated loss were observed bilaterally in the insula, superior parietal gyri, central sulci, and cingulate sulci.

A fast diffeomorphic image registration algorithm

TL;DR: DARTEL has been applied to intersubject registration of 471 whole brain images, and the resulting deformations were evaluated in terms of how well they encode the shape information necessary to separate male and female subjects and to predict the ages of the subjects.

Tract-based spatial statistics: voxelwise analysis of multi-subject diffusion data.

TL;DR: TBSS aims to improve the sensitivity, objectivity and interpretability of analysis of multi-subject diffusion imaging studies by solving the question of how to align FA images from multiple subjects in a way that allows for valid conclusions to be drawn from the subsequent voxelwise analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Threshold-free cluster enhancement: Addressing problems of smoothing, threshold dependence and localisation in cluster inference

TL;DR: A new method is proposed which attempts to keep the sensitivity benefits of cluster-based thresholding (and indeed the general concept of "clusters" of signal), while avoiding (or at least minimising) these problems, and is referred to as "threshold-free cluster enhancement" (TFCE).

Neural systems supporting interoceptive awareness.

TL;DR: In right anterior insular/opercular cortex, neural activity predicted subjects' accuracy in the heartbeat detection task and local gray matter volume correlated with both interoceptive accuracy and subjective ratings of visceral awareness.

Statistical parametric maps in functional imaging: A general linear approach

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a general approach that accommodates most forms of experimental layout and ensuing analysis (designed experiments with fixed effects for factors, covariates and interaction of factors).

Voxel-Based Morphometry—The Methods

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the steps involved in VBM, with particular emphasis on segmenting gray matter from MR images with non-uniformity artifact and provide evaluations of the assumptions that underpin the method, including the accuracy of the segmentation and the assumptions made about the statistical distribution of the data.
Journal ArticleDOI

Navigation-related structural change in the hippocampi of taxi drivers

TL;DR: Structural MRIs of the brains of humans with extensive navigation experience, licensed London taxi drivers, were analyzed and compared with those of control subjects who did not drive taxis, finding a capacity for local plastic change in the structure of the healthy adult human brain in response to environmental demands.
Journal ArticleDOI

A unified statistical approach for determining significant signals in images of cerebral activation.

TL;DR: A unified statistical theory for assessing the significance of apparent signal observed in noisy difference images is presented and an estimate of the P‐value for local maxima of Gaussian, t, χ2 and F fields over search regions of any shape or size in any number of dimensions is estimated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nonlinear spatial normalization using basis functions

TL;DR: A fast algorithm has been developed that utilizes Taylor's theorem and the separable nature of the basis functions, meaning that most of the nonlinear spatial variability between images can be automatically corrected within a few minutes.
