Tolerance analysis based on Monte Carlo simulation: a case of an automotive water pump design optimization

TL;DR: This work presents a proposal for an intelligent design in an actual application by considering design simplification through the reduction of parts for an automotive water pump, aiming at both cost saving and improved reliability.
Journal ArticleDOI

Conceptual design of a fretting fatigue testing device

TL;DR: In this paper, the conceptual design of an advanced, especially in functionality and human engineering, test rig for fretting fatigue experiments is discussed, and different designs of test rigs are evaluated by weighing their advantages and disadvantages.
Journal ArticleDOI

Failure analysis of pipeline indents using steel precision balls under subsea conditions

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors aimed at finding important features which relate to rolling and skidding of precision balls on the surface of pipes and compared the results of the surface and subsurface analysis correlated well with the model output.
Book ChapterDOI

Prognostic Enhancements on Health and Usage Monitoring Systems

TL;DR: By combining prognostic theories for improving the predictability of lead time intervals to maintenance inspections, it is demonstrated that a practical application of prognostic enhancements of health and usage monitoring systems is realized.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of hardness in shackle chain wear under harsh environmentally conditions

TL;DR: In this article, the authors quantified the wear rate and wear mechanism of two commercially available chain materials, hardened and non-resistant shackle chains, and found that the hardened chains wear out 1.5× less compared with the normal chains.
