Household-based factors affecting uptake of biogas plants in Bangladesh: Implications for sustainable development
Munir Ahmad,Yiyun Wu +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors identified and examined household-based factors affecting decisions regarding the sustainable uptake of biogas plants, and found that the household head's education, sex, annual household income, cattle ownership, annual crop yield, knowledge of the plants, distance from firewood sources, and acquisition of credit and loans imparted a positive and statistically significant effect on the uptake of BGs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Opportunities and challenges for the waste management in emerging and frontier countries through industrial symbiosis
TL;DR: In this article , the authors identify the opportunities and challenges that emerging and frontier countries have for waste utilization through the industrial symbiosis approach through a literature review, and highlight opportunities for governments, researchers, and stakeholders to make effective decisions to achieve sustainable development, reduce environmental concerns and address current waste management issues.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optimization of energy-water-waste nexus at district level: A techno-economic approach
TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a mathematical model to optimize the nexus for a centralized facility, which is applicable at the district level, where sources are from domestic and industrial wastewaters and multiple contaminants are considered for optimization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Simultaneous design of heat integrated water allocation networks considering all possible splitters and mixers
Dong Xuan,Zhang Chijin,Peng Xiaoyi,Chenglin Chang,Zuwei Liao,Yang Yao,Jingyuan Sun,Jingdai Wang,Yongrong Yang +8 more
TL;DR: The direct heat transfer of stream mixing is more flexible in this problem and the actual number of heat exchangers can be much smaller than the traditional HEN, so the better results are obtained in large-scale problems compared with the previous papers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Simultaneous design of heat integrated water allocation networks considering all possible splitters and mixers
TL;DR: In this paper , a novel superstructure is proposed to simultaneously design heat integrated water allocation networks (HIWAN), where stream splitters and mixers are considered for every water-using operations and heat exchange units, so that possibilities of stream mixing can be fully explored.

Global optimization for the synthesis of integrated water systems in chemical processes
TL;DR: A new deterministic spatial branch and contract algorithm is proposed for optimizing such systems, in which piecewise under- and over-estimators are used to approximate the non-convex terms in the original model to obtain a convex relaxation whose solution gives a lower bound on the global optimum.
