Micro-friction stir welding of titan zinc sheets
TL;DR: In this paper, the applicability of micro-friction stir welding (μFSW) to wrought zinc alloy sheets and then to improve the structural integrity of such joints were evaluated. But the results were limited to 150nm, which is in average 13 times smaller than the size of the 2μm that they get when sheets are TIG welded.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multi-scale investigation of highly anisotropic zinc alloys using crystal plasticity and inverse analysis
TL;DR: In this paper, a multi-scale Visco-Plastic Self-Consistent (VPSC) approach is used to describe the macroscopic anisotropic mechanical response during sheet metal deformation and the critical resolved shear stress as well as the micro-scale crystal parameters are obtained by an inverse analysis comparing the simulated and experimental results in terms of obtained tensile curves along three different directions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of muffler mounting bracket designs on durability
TL;DR: In this article, the failure analysis of muffler mounting brackets of three-wheeler vehicles observed during the durability test is presented. And the failure is identified using fishbone diagram, a tool that provides a systematic way of looking at effects and the causes that contribute to those effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cracking of underground welded steel pipes caused by HAZ sensitization
TL;DR: In this paper, the failure of steel welded pipes was not caused by tensile ductile overload but resulted from low ductility fracture in the area of the weld, which also contains multiple intergranular secondary cracks.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fundamental Aspects of Rolled Zn Alloy Sheet Formability: Structure-Property and Failure Mode Relationships
TL;DR: In this paper, critical testing methods are employed in order to assess the formability of a Zn-Ti-Cu alloy, evaluating the anisotropic properties of the produced sheet, and the determination of plastic strain ratios and the induced combined mathematical expressions, utilizing bi-axial strain measurements for various test directions (0, 45 and 90 degrees towards the RD), together with the performance of cupping tests are compiled, aiming to rank and interpret the bending and sheet metal roll-forming capability.

Failure of weld joints between carbon steel pipe and 304 stainless steel elbows
TL;DR: A number of weld joints between carbon steel pipe and type 304 stainless steel elbow constituting a gas piping system of a petrochemical unit developed cracks after a relatively short period of usage, resulting in leakage as mentioned in this paper.

Texture gradient in rolled zinc sheets
TL;DR: In this article, the texture gradient in the thickness of the sheet and the reason of its development in zinc-copper-titanium alloys are analyzed. But the results of texture modelling are not presented.

Microstructure and Failure of a Welded ZnTiCu Tube
George Pantazopoulos,A. Sampani +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a failure analysis of a cracked ZnTiCu welded tube was conducted primarily by using microstructural observations of the weld joint and mechanical testing of related material, and the presence of pre-existing welding defects was a major contributor to the failure.
