The basics of holography, holographic interferometry, and DH are presented, and examples from such diverse fields as deformation analysis, form determination, refractive index measurement, and wave front reconstruction by shearographic differential interference contrast microscopy are given.
Abstract
Holography and holographic interferometry as a means for nondestructive testing, as well as metrologic tools in engineering, biology, and other fields, have significant momentum by the introduction of digital holography (DH) and further by the employment of numerical processing power, which became available due to the increase in speed and data capacity of modern computers. In this review paper, we present the basics of holography, holographic interferometry, and DH, and give examples from such diverse fields as deformation analysis, form determination, refractive index measurement, and wave front reconstruction by shearographic differential interference contrast microscopy.

Defect reconstruction by non-destructive testing with laser induced ultrasonic detection

TL;DR: A hybrid configuration where ultrasound is generated by impact of laser pulses, while the detection is done with conventional transducers is implemented for defect reconstruction in metallic elements and it is shown that it combines advantages of both photonic and ultrasonic devices, reducing the drawbacks of both methods.
