Perceiving affordances : Visual guidance of stair climbing

TL;DR: It is concluded that perception for the control of action reflects the underlying dynamics of the animal-environment system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Visual guidance of walking through apertures: body-scaled information for affordances.

TL;DR: This study videotaped large and small subjects walking through apertures to determine empirically the critical aperture-to-shoulder-width ratio (A/S) marking the transition from frontal walking to body rotation and tested the hypothesis that perceptual judgments of "passability" are based on intrinsic or body-scaled information specifying aperture width as a ratio of the observer's eyeheight.
Journal ArticleDOI

Validation of a Bayesian-based method for defining residential archetypes in urban building energy models

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented a more detailed methodology for setting up UBEMs while faced with incomplete information about the buildings, which called for defining unknown or uncertain parameters in archetype descriptions as probability distributions and using measured energy data to update these distributions by Bayesian calibration.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Age of Clay: The Social Dynamics of House Destruction

TL;DR: The role of house conflagration, a practice that lasted during the entire Neolithic of Southeast Europe, has not been addressed in archaeological investigations as discussed by the authors, and the phenomenon of burned houses has been treated as a series of lucky accidents during the Neolithic, which are primarily responsible for the preservation of Neolithic sites.

The Office Environment: Space Planning and Affective Behavior:

Malcolm J. Brookes, +1 more
- 01 Oct 1972 -
TL;DR: The state of the art in office and space planning described, and the results of a field study of the effects of office design on the occupants are presented in this paper, where attitudes and perceptions of office occupants are surveyed.
