Iris recognition is achieved by iris acquisition that permits a user to self-position his or her eye (216) into an imager's (200) field of view without the need for any physical contact as discussed by the authors.Abstract:
Iris recognition is achieved by iris acquisition that permits a user to self-position his or her eye (216) into an imager's (200) field of view without the need for any physical contact, spatially locating the data defining that portion of a digitized video image of the user's eye that defines solely the iris thereof without any initial spatial condition of the iris being provided, and pattern matching the spatially located data defining the iris of the user's eye with stored data defining a model iris by employing normalized spatial correlation for first comparing, at each of a plurality of spatial scales, each of distinctive spatial characteristics of the respective irises that are spatially registered with one another to quantitatively determine, at each of the plurality of spatial scales, a goodness value of match at that spatial scale, and then judging whether or not the pattern which manifests solely the iris of the user's eye matches the digital data which manifests solely the model iris in accordance with a certain combination of the quantitatively-determined goodness values of match at each of said plurality of spatial scales.read more

Information record infrastructure, system and method
TL;DR: In this paper, a business model for the creation, maintenance, transmission, and use of digital medical records is presented, which allows financial burdens to be reallocated optimally and equitably, resulting in decreased overall societal cost.
Patent
System and method for secure three-party communications
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a system and method for communicating information between a first party and a second party, comprising the steps of receiving, by an intermediary, an identifier of desired information and accounting information for a transaction involving the information from the first party, and negotiating, by the intermediary, a comprehension function for obscuring at least a portion of the information communicated between the first parties and the second parties.

Adaptive pattern recognition based control system and method
TL;DR: An adaptive interface for a programmable system, for predicting a desired user function, based on user history, as well as machine internal status and context, is presented for confirmation by the user, and the predictive mechanism is updated based on this feedback as mentioned in this paper.

Image understanding for iris biometrics: A survey
TL;DR: This survey covers the historical development and current state of the art in image understanding for iris biometrics and suggests a short list of recommended readings for someone new to the field to quickly grasp the big picture of irisBiometrics.

Multifactorial optimization system and method
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a method for providing unequal allocation of rights among agents while operating according to fair principles, comprising assigning a hierarchal rank to each agent, providing a synthetic economic value to a first set of agents at the a high level of the hierarchy, allocating portions of the synthetic economy value by the first sets of agents to a second subset of agents, at respectively different hierarchal ranks than the first set, and conducting an auction amongst agents using the synthetic economic values as the currency.

High confidence visual recognition of persons by a test of statistical independence
TL;DR: A method for rapid visual recognition of personal identity is described, based on the failure of a statistical test of independence, which implies a theoretical "cross-over" error rate of one in 131000 when a decision criterion is adopted that would equalize the false accept and false reject error rates.
Patent
Biometric personal identification system based on iris analysis.
TL;DR: In this article, the sign of the projection of many different parts of the iris onto these filters determines each bit in an iris code, and the similarity metric (Hamming distance) is computed from the XOR of any two iris codes.
