Journal ArticleDOI

Bacoside A Induces Tumor Cell Death in Human Glioblastoma Cell Lines through Catastrophic Macropinocytosis.

TL;DR: The extracts of an Indian traditional medicinal plant Bacopa monnieri and its bioactive component Bacoside A can generate dosage associated tumor specific disturbances in the hydrostatic pressure balance of the cell via a mechanism involving excessive phosphorylation of calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase IIA (CaMKIIA/CaMK2A) enzyme that is further involved in the release of calcium from the smooth endoplasmic reticular networks.
Journal ArticleDOI

In Vitro Propagation, Phytochemical and Neuropharmacological Profiles of Bacopa monnieri (L.) Wettst.: A Review

TL;DR: Bioreactor based micropropagation was found to increase the multiplication rate of shoot cultures for the commercial propagation of B. monnieri plants and the maximum content of bacosides has been recorded in shoot biomass using an airlift bioreactor system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bacoside A: Role in Cigarette Smoking Induced Changes in Brain

TL;DR: Testing the effect of bacoside A (BA) on the causal role of passive/secondhand smoke exposure that caused pathological and neurological changes in rat brain found that BA was effective in combating these changes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enhancement of secondary metabolites in Bacopa monnieri (L.) Pennell plants treated with copper-based nanoparticles in vivo.

TL;DR: Starch-stabilised copper-based nanoparticles at sub-toxic concentrations were found to enhance secondary metabolism and antioxidant capacity in Bacopa monnieri through ROS-mediated defence response.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects associated with insertion of cryptogein gene utilizing Ri and Ti plasmids on morphology and secondary metabolites are stable in Bacopa monnieri-transformed plants grown in vitro and ex vitro

TL;DR: The crypt-transformed plant lines of B. monnieri may be considered as the potential source for sustainable bioproduction of bacosides in vitro and after long-term culture.

Biochemistry & Molecular Biology of Plants

TL;DR: This edition of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology of Plants holds a unique place in the plant sciences literature as it provides the only comprehensive, authoritative, integrated single volume book in this essential field of study.
Journal ArticleDOI

The importance of free radicals and catalytic metal ions in human diseases

TL;DR: The study of free radical reactions is not an isolated and esoteric branch of science and it is hoped that the careful techniques needed to assess the biological role of free radicals will become more widely used.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antioxidant activity of Bacopa monniera in rat frontal cortex, striatum and hippocampus.

TL;DR: Bacopa monniera (BM) induced a dose‐related increase in SOD, CAT and GPX activities, in all the brain regions investigated, after 14 and 21 days of drug administration, suggesting that the increase in oxidative free radical scavenging activity by BM may explain the cognition‐ facilitating action of BM.
Journal Article

Neuropsychopharmacological effects of the Ayurvedic nootropic Bacopa monniera Linn. (Brahmi)

TL;DR: The bacosides significantly improved the acquisition, consolidation and retention in the shock-motivated brightness discrimination response, active conditioned avoidance response and produced a dose-dependent facilitation of discretion between an aversive (LiCL) and palatable fluid (sucrose) in the conditioned taste aversion (CTA) response.
Journal ArticleDOI

The chronic effects of an extract of Bacopa monniera (Brahmi) on cognitive function in healthy human subjects

TL;DR: Findings suggest that B. monniera may improve higher order cognitive processes that are critically dependent on the input of information from the authors' environment such as learning and memory.
