TLDR
It is proposed that proton displacement due to the interaction between humic substances and the oxide, along with the formation of ternary complexes with the Pb(II) cation bridging the oxide and the Humic substances (Type A complexes), cause the deviation from additivity.

An overview of the role of goethite surfaces in the environment.

TL;DR: The possible physicochemical properties of theGoethite surface contributing to the strong affinity of goethite to nutrients and contaminants in natural environment are reported and the suggested adsorption mechanism for these adsorbates was elucidated, which will help to understand the role ofgoethite in natural environments and provide some information about goethites as an absorbent.

Effect of soil fulvic and humic acid on binding of Pb to goethite–water interface: Linear additivity and volume fractions of HS in the Stern layer

TL;DR: The electrostatic potential profile of the goethite-JGFA complex is considerably different from that of goethites-jGHA complex and affects Pb binding strongly, and at high pH nearly all Pb is bound toGoethite.
