TL;DR: In this article, a composite was developed from the dry leaves at desired shape through casting process by using the raw sources available from the plant waste, which was a biodegradable and eco-friendly material.
Abstract: The present analysis gives an insight to understand the preparation of composite materials using biodegradable wastes. In the current scenario, disposal of non-degradable materials like electronic waste, construction waste, biomedical waste, radioactive waste and industrial waste are main problems to the human society. In the organic waste, the major portion of waste is fallen from trees as dry leaves. Those leaf wastes are not handled appropriately and due to human ignorance, they are not disposed properly. The pollutants that are generated from the burning leaves enter into the atmosphere which results in greenhouse gas effect as a whole, as well as the formation of particulate matter. The composite can be easily manufactured from the dry leaves at desired shape through casting process by using the raw sources available from the plant waste. The composite developed without any additives, chemical treatments and synthetic fillers was a biodegradable and eco-friendly material.

19 Feb 2016TL;DR: In this article, an attempt is made to evaluate the major parameters of MSWM, in addition to a comprehensive review of MSW generation, its characterization, collection, and treatment options as practiced in India.
Abstract: The abysmal state of and challenges in municipal solid waste management (MSWM) in urban India is the motivation of the present study. Urbanization contributes enhanced municipal solid waste (MSW) generation and unscientific handling of MSW degrades the urban environment and causes health hazards. In this paper, an attempt is made to evaluate the major parameters of MSWM, in addition to a comprehensive review of MSW generation, its characterization, collection, and treatment options as practiced in India. The current status of MSWM in Indian states and important cities of India is also reported. The essential conditions for harnessing optimal benefits from the possibilities for public private partnership and challenges thereof and unnoticeable role of rag-pickers are also discussed. The study concludes that installation of decentralized solid waste processing units in metropolitan cities/towns and development of formal recycling industry sector is the need of the hour in developing countries like I...

Abstract: An investigation was conducted on the ASTM Standard Test Method for Tensile Properties of Polymer Matrix Composites (D 3039). This investigation consisted of both preliminary testing and an interlaboratory test program. Information generated from preliminary testing was used to determine the effects of various parameters and to optimize the interlaboratory test plan and test protocol. The interlaboratory study portion of this investigation was conducted on six composite material systems in a variety of lay-up configurations. The number of participating labs ranged from five to nine depending on the material type. Precision statistics were determined for the ASTM D 3039 standard from the data generated by the interlaboratory testing in accordance with the ASTM Standard Practice for Conducting an Interlaboratory Study to Determine the Precision of a Test Method (E 691).
