First, I would like to dedicate dissertation work to my mother and father. Your passion and
dedication to nurturing my education has driven me to be the scholar that I am today. The sacrifices
my parents made throughout this journey will live within me as a constant reminder of the way
love should look. To my mother Frances Menzies, your laughter and wisdom are two things I
cherish most in life. My appreciation for you is magnified in that your lighting of my path never
faded, even as the light in your life was dimmed with the passing of my father Robert R. Menzies.
Dad, this work stands as my most precious memorial to you. Thank you for always believing in
me, I miss you every day.
Next, I dedicate this dissertation to my two amazing, courageous, and loving sisters, Ashlee
and Veronica. Ashlee you have been my partner in crime, my confidant, and my biggest
cheerleader. In my most challenging times, I always knew you were in my corner. Thanks for your
quick wit and timely conversations that always kept me uplifted and motivated. I love you sister.
Lastly, I dedicate this dissertation to my love, Jasen Shirley. Thank you for believing in me
in when I did not have the strength. Life is so much brighter with you in it. On to the next
adventure! I love you.

TL;DR: Ogilvy's book as discussed by the authors is intended to help either Ogilvy herself or any of her readers really to understand how it was that, with these warm, likeable, highly-gifted women in the church, the women bishops' legislation failed at final approval in November 2012.
Abstract: book is intended to help either Ogilvy herself or any of her readers really to understand how it was that, with these warm, likeable, highly-gifted women in the church, the women bishops’ legislation failed at final approval in November 2012. Likewise, the perspective of the book is broader than the limits of the Church of England, and there is a recurrent concern with the Global South. It is therefore odd, to say the least, that there is no voice from outside of Britain and North America included in the collection. The lack of clarity around the purpose of this book is reflected in the inclusion of each contributor’s favourite verse of the Bible, and favourite biblical woman. These feel “tacked on” at the end of each chapter, particularly as the biblical verses are largely left without comment. It is not clear whether these are intended as a window into the contributors’ theological and spiritual perspectives, or whether the book is intended to be semi-devotional. Either way, given that — as noted — the book seems aimed primarily at a non-specialist reader, it seems strange to assume a fairly high level of familiarity with the biblical text. And one small but significant quibble: though the word “complementarity” (and its cognates) is spelled correctly in the introduction and in one chapter, it is misspelled twice in another, and this should have been picked up. In sum, however, Ogilvy’s book is readable and thought-provoking, offering insights and reflections from some inspiring women. Its perspective is refreshingly broad, and it has much to commend it. It is not a book of systematic theology, or a balanced, detailed discussion of the issues at stake, and it does not claim to be; as an exercise in the theology of the personal encounter, it is very enjoyable indeed.
TL;DR: A developing framework of a comprehensive church-based intervention, derived from an ethnographic study about the development, implementation, and maintenance of an HIV/AIDS Ministry within an African American church is presented.
Abstract: The African American church has promoted the health of African Americans through supporting interventions that target a wide variety of diseases, and it is a crucial community partner in the development of HIV prevention interventions. Although research has described the development of church-based HIV interventions, there is a significant lack of frameworks and approaches available to guide the implementation and maintenance of HIV interventions within church-based settings. A developing framework of a comprehensive church-based intervention, derived from an ethnographic study about the development, implementation, and maintenance of an HIV/AIDS Ministry within an African American church is presented. This approach can provide guidance to support the development, implementation, and maintenance of HIV interventions in faith settings.

TL;DR: In this article, Patricia Hill Collins explores the words and ideas of Black feminist intellectuals as well as those African-American women outside academe and provides an interpretive framework for the work of such prominent Black feminist thinkers as Angela Davis, bell hooks, Alice Walker, and Audre Lorde.
Abstract: In spite of the double burden of racial and gender discrimination, African-American women have developed a rich intellectual tradition that is not widely known. In Black Feminist Thought, Patricia Hill Collins explores the words and ideas of Black feminist intellectuals as well as those African-American women outside academe. She provides an interpretive framework for the work of such prominent Black feminist thinkers as Angela Davis, bell hooks, Alice Walker, and Audre Lorde. The result is a superbly crafted book that provides the first synthetic overview of Black feminist thought.

TL;DR: In this paper it is shown that Reel was wrong to follow the English tendency in describing the history of morality in terms of a linear development-in reducing its entire history and genesis to an exclusive concern for utility.
Abstract: 1 . Genealogy i s gray, meticulous, and patiently documentary . It operates on a field of entangled and confused parchments, on d ocuments that have been scratched over and recopied many times . O n this basis, it i s obvious that Paul Reel was wrong to follow the English tendency in describing the history of morality in terms of a linear development-in reducing its entire history and genesis to an exclusive concern for utility . He assumed that words had kept their meaning, that desires still pointed in a single direction, and that ideas retained their logic; and he ig nored the fact that the world of speech and desires has known invasions, struggles, plundering, disguises, ploys. From these elements, however, genealogy retrieves an indispensable re straint: it must record the singularity of events outside of any monotonous finality; it must seek them in the most unpromising places, in what we tend to feel is without history-in sentiments, love, conscience, instincts; it must be sensitive to their recur rence, not in order to trace the gradual curve of their evolution, but to isolate the different scenes where they engaged in dif ferent roles . Finally, genealogy must define even those in stances when they are absent, the moment when they remained unrealized (Plato, at Syracuse, did not become Mohammed) . Genealogy, consequently, requires patience and a knowl edge of details, and it depends on a vast accumulation of source

Abstract: A classic work of feminist scholarship, Ain't I a Woman has become a must-read for all those interested in the nature of black womanhood. Examining the impact of sexism on black women during slavery, the devaluation of black womanhood, black male sexism, racism among feminists, and the black woman's involvement with feminism, hooks attempts to move us beyond racist and sexist assumptions. The result is nothing short of groundbreaking, giving this book a critical place on every feminist scholar's bookshelf.
