TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the indicators of burnout, to determine whether playing position affects the perception of syndrome dimensions, and to identify burnout prevalence in professional football players, finding that the majority of athletes had low burnout indicators.
Abstract: Aim: The present study aimed to investigate the indicators of burnout, to determine whether playing position affects the perception of syndrome dimensions, and to identify burnout prevalence in professional football players Methods: The participants were 100 professional football players (mean age 243 ± 46 years and meantime as a professional athlete of 92 ± 45 years) who were divided into three groups: 27 forwards, 34 midfielders, and 39 defenders The Athlete Burnout Questionnaire (ABQ) and a sociodemographic questionnaire were applied Results: The results show that a) the majority of athletes had low burnout indicators, b) there was no difference in the perception of burnout dimensions by playing position, and c) the prevalence of athletes with burnout, whether mild, moderate, or severe, was 13% Conclusion: The variable of playing position was not a determinant of perception of burnout dimensions among the forwards, midfielders, and defenders Nonetheless, the prevalence of burnout deserves attention, as the negative effects of this syndrome may exert impacts on health, well-being, and sports performance, making athletes more likely to abandon their sport

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the occurrence of burnout in volleyball female athletes participating on the Brazilian Regional Teams Championship 2013 and found significant correlations with practice time of seven years or more in addition to the General.
Abstract: Volleyball is one of the leading sports in Brazil and, in order to achieve good competitive levels, many training sessions are required which consequently generates physical and psychological wear. The result of this process can lead to chronic stress in practitioners, known as the Burnout Syndrome. This study aimed to investigate the occurrence of this syndrome in volleyball female athletes participating on the Brazilian Regional Teams Championship 2013. The Athlete burnout Questionnaire was answered by 576 players (M = 16.4years, SD = 1.12). We used descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation to characterize the syndrome and the non-parametric correlation test of Kendall's tau-b to verify the correlation between the dimensions of burnout and the Practice Time (PT). The athletes presented mean scores (2.01±0:53) for complete burnout and significant correlations with TP of seven years or more in addition to the General.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compare coping strategies among high-performance athletes and amateur women's soccer players, finding that the high performance athletes performed better in all dimensions except for "trainability" and "freedom from worry" when compared to the amateur athletes.
Abstract: Introduction: High-performance athletes suffer a series of psychological disorders that can harm their overall performance. With the high levels of competitiveness and physical/tactical training that are required today, coping strategies to overcome these psychological disorders can make the difference between a winning team and a losing team. Objective: To compare coping strategies among high-performance athletes and amateur women’s soccer players. Methods: This is a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional, non-probability study. The sample consisted of 56 athletes, divided into two groups: G1 – high-performance athletes and G2 – amateur women’s soccer players. The instrument used was the Athletic Coping Skills Inventory-28 (ACSI – 28), validated for Brazil (ACSI – 25BR) and a demographic questionnaire containing 12 questions, developed by the authors themselves. For the data analysis, descriptive statistics, the Shapiro- Wilk test and the Student t test for independent data were used. A confidence level of 95% was adopted. Results: The high performance athletes had higher average scores, which were statistically significant, comparing to the amateur athletes, in the dimensions: “performance under pressure” (p=0.048), “concentration” (p=0.020) and “confidence/motivation” (p=0.009). Conclusion: The high performance athletes performed better in all dimensions except for “trainability” and “freedom from worry”, when compared to the amateur athletes. Keywords: athletes; soccer; adaptation, psychological.
