TLDR
CalcDPC, an algorithm to analyze psychological and linguistic changes in texts translated from English to Brazilian Portuguese, is presented, and differences between automatic and human-translated texts are compared.Abstract:
This work presents calcDPC, an algorithm to analyze psychological and linguistic changes in texts translated from English to Brazilian Portuguese, and compare differences between automatic and human-translated texts. For this purpose, we use the Brazilian Portuguese version of a tool named LIWC, that distributes lexical words in categories with linguistic and psychological characteristics. By counting words in categories, this work seeks to evaluate the percentage of psycholinguistic changes in automatically translated texts and compare them with a reliable translation performed by a human expert. In this way, this study aims to contribute to the improvement of automatic translation tools. Experimental results indicate promising directions for further research.read more

Bleu: a Method for Automatic Evaluation of Machine Translation
TL;DR: This paper proposed a method of automatic machine translation evaluation that is quick, inexpensive, and language-independent, that correlates highly with human evaluation, and that has little marginal cost per run.

Findings of the 2011 Workshop on Statistical Machine Translation
TL;DR: The WMT11 shared tasks as mentioned in this paper included a translation task, a system combination task, and a task for machine translation evaluation metrics, and the results of these tasks were used to evaluate machine translation systems.

Using computer analyses to identify language style and aggressive intent: The secret life of function words
TL;DR: This article analyzed 296 speeches, interviews, and articles from members of four extremist Arabic-speaking groups, two of which have a history of violent attacks, using a computerized text analysis program that calculated the percentage of total words that reflected different function word categories.

The Best Lexical Metric for Phrase-Based Statistical MT System Optimization
TL;DR: It is shown that people tend to prefer BLEU and NIST trained models to those trained on edit distance based metrics like TER or WER, and that using BLEu or NIST produces models that are more robust to evaluation by other metrics and perform well in human judgments.
