Abstract: Objetivou-se caracterizar a clientela que buscou atendimento psicologico na clinica-escola da Universidade Sao Francisco – Campus de Sao Paulo, entre 1995 e 2000, em funcao do genero, faixa etaria, escolaridade e adesao ao tratamento, utilizando-se uma metodologia retrospectiva documental, de consulta aos prontuarios clinicos e as fichas de triagem e um levantamento das queixas apresentadas pelas criancas e adolescentes. Dos 590 pacientes atendidos nesse periodo, 42% pertenciam a faixa etaria de 4-14 anos, 7,5% de 15-19 anos e 50,5%, acima de 20 anos. As principais implicacoes deste estudo dirigemse para a criacao de servicos especificos que atendam a demanda por atendimento psicologico relativa as diversas faixas etarias, especialmente a adolescencia e a terceira idade. Abstract: Although many studies about Psychology School-Clinics have been conducted in Brazil, there are few in Rio Grande do Sul. So that, this paper is a survey's research about sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of people who reached out for psychological service in 2004 at 10 Psychology School-Clinics in metropolitan area of Porto Alegre. The results showed similarity between most of other studies that had been previously conducted in Brazil and the present one, allowing the inference of two typical profiles in Psychology School-Clinics in Brazil: children, male, referred by schools because of learning or behavior problems and young women, who sought, on their own initiative, psychological consultation due to affective problems. It is also important to mention how difficult it is to research about this topic, because there's no standardized, adequate and well-filled out inpatient registration in Psychology School-Clinics.

Abstract: CHARACTERIZATION OF THE CHILDREN POPULATION IN A PSYCHOLOGY CLINIC SCHOOL The objective of this study was to characterize the child population referred to psychological assistance in a university clinic in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, RS. The features of 499 children enrolled during the years of 1999 to 2006 were described, including variables such as gender, age, reason for referral, source of referral, type of assistance, and interruptions. It was verified that the children population occupied a total of 51.8% related to search for psychological assistance. The majority of the children were between 6 to 9 years of age (56.4%), mainly boys (67.3%). The places that referred most of the cases were schools (63.5 %). Almost half of the children (43.5%) were referred to treatment with affective and relational problems and 64% of the cases dropped out of treatment.

Abstract: The objective of the present research was to investigate the characteristics and most frequent behavioral and emotional complaints of patients assisted by a public service of Psychology directed to Children. The participants involved in the study were 129 children or adolescents. Data were collected from medical records, by means of a medical form containing, among other issues, information about gender, age, education and main complaints. The frequencies and percentages of the referred complaints were figured out and, the significance analysis of differences was performed according to a gender division.. The most often complaints reported were: aggressiveness (32.6%), learning difficulties (30.2%), low tolerance to frustration and/or difficulty to control impulses (24.8%) and lack of interest in school subjects (19.4%). There were significant differences between genders, for complaints such as, lack of interest in school subjects, disobedience and behaviors typically associated to depression/suicide attempt. It is necessary to reconsider the mental health policies, paying special attention to the increase of aggressiveness, depression and difficulties regarding learning.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to review the Brazilian scientific literature from 1995 to 2005 on mental health in adolescence, considering the priorities identified by the World Health Organization (depression, anxiety, substance abuse, behavioral disorders, eating disorders, psychosis, child abuse, and violence). 971 abstracts were identified in the LILACS, MEDLINE, INDEXPsi, and SciELO databases, using descriptors associated with the themes. After selection according to specified criteria, 267 abstracts were analyzed by year, focus, methodological design, and principal conclusions. A qualitative analysis was performed on the main findings. Brazilian publications in this area have increased in the last five years. The majority of the articles aimed to identify the problem, while a smaller proportion dealt with the development of intervention and prevention strategies.

Abstract: Survey's research about clients form University Psychology Clinics in the 80's and 90's indicated that the psychological services were inefficient. Although many studies about University Psychology Clinics have been conducted in Brazil, there are few in Rio Grande do Sul. This study is a research about therapeutic practices and theoretical orientation modality developed at University Psychology Clinics from Porto Alegre Metropolitan Region. The present paper also describes patient's screening and helping processes, as well as verifies index of other institutions' referring, treatment ending and dropping out. Data indicates many kinds of therapeutic practices and theoretical orientation in all University Psychology Clinics of this research. 11.88% of the clientele were referred to other institutions, 38.21% have given up the attending process and 15.79% of the patients discharged: positive results comparing to the literature.

Abstract: O artigo apresenta o levantamento de dois anos dos atendimentos em psicoterapia breve realizados na Clinica Psicologica Mackenzie. Compara as caracteristicas dos pacientes e dos processos terapeuticos e identifica os aspectos proeminentes nos dois anos. Verifica predominio de mulheres jovens, solteiras, com curso superior incompleto. As queixas mais referidas sao dificuldades diversas de relacionamento, para lidar com perdas e ansiedade. Os processos sao, em sua maioria, concluidos com duracao entre 9 e 12 sessoes, sendo o indice de interrupcoes menor que o habitual em nosso meio. Ha numero significativo de encaminhamentos. A psicoterapia breve tem sido util aos propositos da Clinica, sendo necessario aprofundar o conhecimento tanto da clientela quanto dos processos terapeuticos. Abstract: Foram avaliados em 79/8 os servicos das Clinicas Psicologicas da cidade de Sao Paulo, ligadas a cursos de Psicologia que eram reconhecidos pelo MEC em 1977. A avaliacao foi feita analisando-se a demanda, realizacao e resultados dos servicos prestados e a insercao na comunidade. Os casos atendidos nessas clinicas em 1977 foram levantados caracterizando-se a demanda atraves do conhecimento da clientela quanto a sexo, idade, nivel socio-economico e queixas apresentadas. A realizacao e resultados foram analisados a partir de indices de Comparecimentos, altas e suspensoes. A insercao na comunidade foi verificada pelas interrelacoes e avaliacoes. Os dados foram computadorizados e discutidos de forma livre, aliados a experiencia da autora e a leituras realizadas.
Concluiu-se que as clinicas nao preechem suas funcoes sociais: atender as necessidades da populacao que as procura e atuar como agentes de modificacao social. Sao utilizadas para atender necessidades do sistema que individualiza problemas sociais. Os conflitos decorrentes dessa utilizacao sao agravados por problemas tecnicos, teoricos, de identidade profissional e estabelecimento do campo de competencia do psicologo. Diante desses conflitos, as instituicoes e profissionais adotam posturas defensivas que se refletem em problemas de organizacao e isolamento.
Essa situacao e compreensivel dentro do desenvolvimento historico da Psicologia no Brasil. E necessario redefiniras funcoes que a profissao deve preencher a partir de uma postura de auto critica. Essa postura ja comeca a ser notada em grupos isolados
