When conducting international research projects, scholars face a myriad of challenges that reach beyond those encountered in domestic research. In this paper, we explore the specific issues related to international survey research, focusing on the different stages of the research process that include defining the study population and gaining data access, survey development, data collection, data analysis, and finally publication of the results. For each stage, we review the pertinent literature, provide illustrations based on examples from our own research projects, and offer possible solutions to address the inherent challenges by formulating suggestions for improving the quality of international survey research.read more

Do We Need to Distance Ourselves from the Distance Concept? Why Home and Host Country Context Might Matter More Than (Cultural) Distance
Anne-Wil Harzing,Markus Pudelko +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the explanatory power of the concept of cultural distance on the entry mode choice of international business strategy is examined, based on a review of 92 prior studies, as well as an empirical investigation in over 800 subsidiaries of MNCs covering nine host and fifteen home countries across the world.

Assessing the measurement invariance of the four-dimensional cultural intelligence scale across countries: A composite model approach
TL;DR: This work assesses the measurement invariance of the commonly used four-dimensional cultural intelligence scale across five countries by means of a composite model logic, using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).

Cultural values, emotional intelligence, and conflict handling styles: A global study
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the influence of cultural values on conflict handling styles through emotional intelligence and found that uncertainty avoidance and long-term orientation influence preferences for the conflict handling style of compromising, obliging, and integrating, while power distance has a direct positive effect on the preference for an avoiding and a dominating style.

Back-Translation for Cross-Cultural Research
TL;DR: The authors investigated factors that affect translation quality and how equivalence between source and target versions can be evaluated through an analysis of variance design, and concluded that translation quality can be predicted, and that a functionally equivalent translation can be demonstrated when responses to the original and target translations are studied.
