TL;DR: In this paper, the basic properties of molybdenum and the methods of producing metallic molybordenum are described, and the focus is directed to various applications of the molybenzenum alloys and compounds such as catalysts, lubricants and refractory ceramics.
Abstract: The basic properties of molybdenum and subsequently the methods of producing metallic molybdenum are described. Selected classes of important inorganic compounds (molybdenum halides, molybdenum oxides, iso- and hetero-polyoxomolybdates) as well as molybdenum hexacarbonyl and hybrid inorganic–organic materials are presented. Thereafter the focus is directed to various applications of metallic molybdenum, its alloys and compounds such as catalysts, lubricants and refractory ceramics. In conclusion, molybdenum’s medicinal role and the antimicrobial activity of MoO3 and solid solutions Mo n W1-n O3 are discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the reaction of [Mo6Cl8]Cl4 with verschiedenen Reagenzien wird untersucht: die Methoxylierung hangt von der CH3O−-Konzentration in CH3OH ab.

TL;DR: In this paper, a sample of MoF 5 oligomers was prepared by reaction of MoFs 6 (g) and Mo(c) and the melting curves of temperature against time established the melting temperature at zero impurity to be 318.85 K, the enthalpy of fusion to be 6.1 kJ mol −1 (± 5 per cent), and the cryoscopic impurity of the sample to be 0.15 mole per cent.

TL;DR: Tungsten(VI) oxide tetrachloride reacts with pentane 2,4-dione to form a salt whose single crystal X-ray structure shows a dichloro-dioxopentane-2,4dionato-tungsten (VI) anion and a 2.4,6-trimethyl-3-acetyl-pyrylium cation as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Tungsten(VI) oxide tetrachloride reacts with pentane-2,4-dione to form a salt whose single crystal X-ray structure shows a dichloro-dioxopentane-2,4-dionato-tungsten(VI) anion and a 2,4,6-trimethyl-3-acetyl-pyrylium cation; the analogus reaction with molybdenum(VI) oxide tetrachloride yields 1,3,5,7-tetramethyl-2,4,6,8-tetraoxa-adamantane.

TL;DR: In this paper, the A1(axial) and E MoCl stretching modes of monomeric MoCl5(C4v) were assigned on the basis of a square-pyramidal geometry.
Abstract: Matrix-isolation studies have been carried out on molybdenum pentachloride. In a nitrogen-matrix, prominent i.r. bands are observed at ca. 473 and 408 cm–1, which on the basis of isotope studies are assigned as the A1(axial) and E Mo–Cl stretching modes of monomeric MoCl5(C4v). Argon matrices yielded essentially the same spectroscopic features. Corresponding u.v.-visible spectra were obtained and assigned on the basis of a square-pyramidal geometry. Attempts to prepare and characterise MoCl6 were unsuccessful.

TL;DR: In this article, a new synthetic route, utilizing the reaction between Mo/sub 2/(O/Sub 2/CCH/sub 3/)/sub 4/ and AlCl/sub3/ in refluxing chlorobenzene, has afforded a reactive form of the tetranuclear rectangular cluster compound M 0.
Abstract: A new synthetic route, utilizing the reaction between Mo/sub 2/(O/sub 2/CCH/sub 3/)/sub 4/ and AlCl/sub 3/ in refluxing chlorobenzene, has afforded a reactive form of ..beta..-M0Cl/sub 2/. Infrared, UV-visible reflectance, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic studies show that ..beta..-MoCl/sub 2/ preparations obtained by both the new and older methods with those of the tetranuclear rectangular cluster compound M0/sub 4/Cl/sub 8/(PEt/sub 3/)/sub 4/ and its coupled condensation product (Mo/sub 4/Cl/sub 8/(PEt/sub 3/)/sub 2/)/sub x/ suggests the existence of the tetranuclear units in the structure of ..beta..-MoCl/sub 2/. Direct conversion of ..beta..-MoCl/sub 2/ to Mo/sub 4/Cl/sub 8/(PEt/sub 3/)/sub 4/ by reaction with triethylphosphine at room temperature substantiates this view. 19 references, 3 figures, 3 tables.
